My shadows bend and tighten around their barrier as if it is prey to my snake. I chant silently with my ancestors in my mind as we work to remove the very magic my shadows are now feeding on. I feel one last tug on my magic and the shadows completely absorb it leaving me standing panting as my shadows retreat, feasting on their meal. I stumble slightly, then feel the trickle of blood come from my nose.

A little dust covered it, and as she wiped it off, her heartbeat grew louder. After everything she had just seen, she somehow wasn’t ready for whatever was coming next.
