He looked grim as he spoke. This was horrible. What crimes does a person commit that deserve such punishment? From all I'd been taught in class, I knew that glands were very important to shifters. They were what dictated their very existence. Sure, they could once shift, as the name implied, but with the development of their realm, they often weren't inclined to, and the ability had sort of atrophied so that your average shifter couldn't use it. Only dominant alphas and omegas and powerful betas could have the possibility of shifting.

“Please—stop!” Nyra froze mid-change, panting heavily; her chest rose and fell like she’d run a marathon. “Jett…” I rasped, barely finding my breath. “What is she? Don’t tell me she’s—” “Yes,” he cut in, his jaw clenched tight, eyes blazing with fury. “She’s a fucking shapeshifter.” My heart thudded painfully in my chest. “Oh my God… I thought, “They didn’t exist.” “They do,” he said, pacing a step closer to the cage. His voice is dangerously low now. “They’re just rare. But that doesn't mean they don't exist.”

He picked another flower, “is just turn.” Enough talk, Neeri growled, forcing the shift. She wanted to run, smell the fresh air. Lillah screeched, falling to her knees. Skin began to stretch. Bones began to snap. “Lillah, calm down, push the pain to one side and just step out of the way, let Neeri take your place.” Gaz had seen many a shift. Alphas’ were fast; they tore through their own skin in an instant. The majority of the pack experienced a shift that took a couple of seconds; clothes ripped, a few bones broke and then they were in their other form but Omega’s experienced a slow and torturous shift. It could take minutes.

I asked. He shook his head. “No.” “Then why was I covered in blood?” I whispered. “I have a theory, but it’s very rare that it happens.” “Tell me.” “Sometimes, when the mother is in distress, the baby can lend their power to her, helping to protect themselves. I think your child helped you,” he explained. “Is my child… a shapeshifter?” I wasn’t sure if I was guessing correctly. Shapeshifters were rare, associated with earth power but at a higher level. It was an incredible gift, and like Darius and me, it was uncommon. “Maybe, Your Highness. It could be.”

I let him know my intentions. “Trust me, I already thought about that. How do you think I got to where I am today? Do you know what it means to be an Alpha shapeshifter?” He smirks wickedly and snaps his fingers together and two figures that look just like him emerge behind him. Their eyes are red as if they’re looking into a void. They wail out strenuously, their fangs growing long over their lips, their claws long and sharp. He takes a step back to watch us fight.

Shifters are just a myth, some story being used to scare children around a campfire and in horror movies!' she snaps back at Luna. Feeling Shock and horror at the thought of the monsters she saw in a few movies.

(Everything probably has a but because every race has a butt-I hope…) She just smiled again, looking a tad irritated and continued. “There is the chance you may be a shape shifter.” “A what?” “A shape shifter, you change form.” She said, looking irritated and now showing it. “Sorry is that bad?” “Seeing that the vampires and shifters declared war against each other, it may be the slightest of problems.” “Okay, I realized you used the plural for problem. What else is bad news?” I sounded exasperated. “Well it consists of more…much more training to control and use magic…”

His chest trembled with the precarious lift of hope. “Danny, I want to explain a few things. They’re important.” Mahisar’s voice smoothed into instructor and oracle. “You are a shape-shifter. What sets you apart is this: when you phase into an animal, it becomes wholly you. You never depart from it. It is not a separate spirit, as it is with were-beings. Were-beings must share the spirit of the animal they inhabit. That duality can make them weak. You are not weak.”
