Its voice pressed into their skulls: “Bonded… Perfect… F i n a l…” Emily’s breath broke entirely. Adrian felt her slipping. No— NO— She wasn’t slipping— she was being taken. He screamed her name— And the First Shadow’s other hand rose slowly……aimed for his heart.

The shadow let out an unearthly shriek and dissipated into the air. Breathing hard, drenched in rain and sweat, Emma approached the node. It was a small, cylindrical device, glowing faintly, humming in sync with the shadows outside. She knew what to do. She connected her signal device, forcing its pulse into the node. The hum intensified, reverberating through her bones. The shadows outside twisted and shrieked, retreating into corners as the node’s connection faltered. Emma’s fingers ached, sweat and rain dripping down her arms, but she held firm. Finally, the hum steadied, the shadows froze, and the node went dark.

But this time— Its voice was no longer calm. It was precise. Final. “To end unresolved existence.” Emma froze. “…That’s the End.” The shadow corrected immediately. “The End is a consequence of deviation from instruction.” Emma felt her breath catch. “No…” The End inside her reacted violently. Not in anger. In contradiction. Emma whispered: “That’s not what I am…” The shadow stepped closer for the first time. Not physically. Conceptually. The space between them collapsed. And Emma felt it—

“You think you’re the only one?” “You wound me, Delia,” Gray chuckles. She slaps his arm playfully, letting him know it's time to get serious. He straightens up, as all signs of amusement snap from his face in a split second and holds still while she goes to work on the chain in his hands. She places both of her hands a few inches above the metal and whispers some incantation until a low blue glow can be seen from underneath her palms. When the glow fades she moves her warm copper brown hands and sighs.

Her words sound incoherent and confusing. The shadow stood in front of her, Sherry's face was already as pale as blood. She held her stomach protectively. "I won't disob-ey you anym-ore, Please spare my baby" She said in a whisper. Suddenly she saw the shadow swing something towards her even though she didn't know what it was. She still screamed instinctively. "AHHH!"

“What do you mean by that?” “It means what it means, Emery. Lady Serena will stop at nothing. She is desperate and you know too well how desperation could drive someone far.
