He lifted my shirt and took one nipple into his mouth and sucked so hard, I felt the pain shoot into my body, the wet glide of his tongue licking over the fabric. There was a loud thump against the cell door. It was a shapeshifter, staring at us through the bars. His lewd gaze made me look away. “How much for this bitch?” He asked, his eyes drinking me in, his hand covering his crotch. Maverick pinned him with an incredulous stare. “She’s not for sale.” The shifter cackled, “I understand that she’s not, but I want to know if you could loan her to me for one night. I’d pay extra for that juicy ass...” he continued to stroke his junk.

This guy was absolutely bat-sh*t crazy. The king continues despite my silence. "Shifters, like wolves, also have mates. They mate for life and share a strong bond with their mates. A shifter will know when he's met his." I have no idea where he's going with this. "I knew when I saw you, Hera," he says carefully. "What?" I say. "I knew you were my mate."

“You are so full of yourself and think so highly of yourself that I feel like we shall handle this right now. Shift.” Shannon paled and shook her head. “No.” “I said fucking shift.” We screamed together, and Shannon dropped to her knees. She had no way to fight against my command. And this time, I used my full power to demand her to shift. She writhed on the ground and her eyes grew wide as fur danced down her skin. I watched as her shift took over until she laid panting at my feet.

I asked, and he sighed, looking away. "The shifter world is more complicated than you think. The companies that make the suppressants are the same companies that make the blockers. They exist as a way to protect and destroy," he explained, and that confused me even more than the whole debacle. "What does that even mean? When shifters commit crimes that are horrible, they are put on these medications to destroy their glands, and they are stripped of their ability to release pheromones. It's a sort of crippling." He looked grim as he spoke.

None of the aberrations, supernatural, didn’t like labels that could make them look more monstrous than they already were. Zephyra watched the shifter sniff the ground with the determination its kind was known for. What was a shifter doing here? The bear shifter pack was the closest one, and they were two states away. That had to mean this was a loner. Zephyra’s muscles tensed, and her stomach tightened as the truth dawned on her. Damn, damn, and double damn! Moving painfully slow in an attempt to avoid making noise, Zephyra removed three arrows from her leather quiver.

“What do you mean?” “I don’t think I can do it. It just feels unnatural and sounds terrifying. If I can’t do it, I’ll let you down. If I can do it, what happens if I get stuck like that? Shifting scares me far more than the others’ powers. It’s intimidating.” He shook his head. “But that doesn’t make any sense. Shifters don’t have all this magic stuff to learn. Our power is in transformation, and it’s likely to be the easiest one for you to master.”
