Xavier was dragging his body out of the heavy wood that had fallen on him, oblivious to Riven's presence. Cade shifted into his silver lycan and raced into the building. Riven didn't spare another glance at Layla as he faced the shadow warrior before him. His claws emerged and he glared at Xavier violently. He didn't fully turn into his beast, but he was a step away from shifting because his eyes had turned blood red. His body shook violently and his canines slowly emerged.

Her parents must have been arguing over the color. Her mom nodded. “It felt like we should give a warning.” Her stomach twisted in entirely new knots. “A warning for what?” Rather than answering, Martina said, “I don’t understand your point-of-view. You should want humans to control the planet. Shifters should be shoved out or completely eradicated because they pose a risk to us. If you’re pro-shifter, you’re anti-human.” She rolled her eyes and shook her head. “It’s nothing as simple as that, and you know it.”
