Chapter — The Mothers of the Castle Aella POV Apparently, the castle could sense urgency. And desperation. Because the moment the thought fully formed in my mind—we need help, we need answers, we need to be ready—the library reacted. Books began moving. At first it was only one shelf. Then another. Then an entire section of the room shifted with elegant precision. Volumes slid free on their own, scrolls unrolled in midair, ladders glided across rails, and stacks of books floated from distant corners toward me like determined birds.

"It's a library." I look at the thousands of books that have been mine since Greystone died. "They're our history." I don't tell her that one day I'll pass the books on to my son or daughter. Having a child with Marinah means it's highly possible we'll have a female heir. The thought of holding a curly haired baby girl with Marinah's eyes warms my chest. "The history of Shadow Warriors?" she asks and pulls me from the dream. "Yes." "What language is this?" she asks after carefully removing a book from one of the shelves.

It looked like it might fall at any moment. My curiosity grew. Slowly, I walked toward it, my footsteps careful and quiet. Reaching out, I grabbed the book and tried to pull it back into place. But instead of moving normally, the entire bookshelf shifted. A low rumbling sound echoed softly through the room as the shelf slowly began to move aside. My eyes widened in shock. A hidden passage. Behind the moving shelf, a dark opening slowly revealed itself. My heart started pounding again, louder this time. I knew it.

I located the green folder in which I had stored my homework, and after that, I reorganized the books so that they were lined up at the bottom. "You have got to have the most organized locker I have ever seen," Sharon exclaimed to me. I shrugged and said, "I don't like things out of order," and I meant it. I brushed on the edge of one of the books that was all twisted up. It continued to be quite annoying to me. It would have been better if I had purchased a new one. During that time, Sharon reached around me and pushed on the spine of one of the books, causing it to go crooked as a result of her action.

I could pick up any sound and easily was able to move if I needed to. Stumbling, she placed four books in front of me as she came back, huffing a little. I smiled and grabbed the books. Nodding, I headed further into the library, deeper into the quiet. At the far end of the building, I knew there were quieter tables near the window, where I could watch the storm roll in. Dropping my backpack on the floor with a thud, I plopped down and spread out the four books. Two were pretty thin, only about 200 or so pages. The other two were thick, anywhere between 500-700 pages at least.

Sophia dropped onto the couch beside me, Emma leaning in on my other side—shoulder to shoulder like back in the yard. “No loose ends,” Sophia said. “No mercy,” Emma added. I nodded once. “We start tonight.” The notebook was full now—names, dates, moves. Evan John’s empire had no idea what was coming. And this weekend? We make our first move. I slammed the notebook shut and leaned back hard, eyes wide. “Hell nah. I’m not gonna fuck that old thing if he picks me, girls.” The words came out sharp, cutting through the tension.

Returning the book to the shelves, I wondered if I would find anything helpful in the library. I nearly lost my balance as I put the book on the shelf. Bracing myself on the shelf, I quickly grabbed it when it leaned over. I managed to keep it from falling, but it still caused a few books to fall. Picking up the books, I found their rightful place and returned them to the shelf. As I put up the last book, it seemed something was stuck behind the books, preventing them from sliding back. Rearranging the books, I found a small brown book wedged behind them, but it didn’t have a title or seem to belong to the library.

The books were similar in sizes, and has no unbalanced pattern. "Here!" Nathan shouted. "Shelf No. 21..?!" he frowned. I felt the disappointment in his voice. But why? "Does the arrangements of the Shelves were—" Ella was a bit shocked, covering her mouth. "They were arranged randomly!!" Aaron concluded, and panicked. He rapidly thrown all of the books in his chosen shelf just to find the Encyclopedia! "Oh, here!" Trixie gladly shouted. She was jumping in joy! "Encyclopedia No. 13, right?" she smiled.

155 Shania adjusted the stack of books in her arms as she stepped into the cozy library at the foundation’s headquarters. This had quickly become her favorite spot to retreat to, a quiet space where stories lived and dreams flourished. A part of her still marveled at how far things had come. The library was bustling with activity as kids and young adults flipped through pages of novels and textbooks. Shania watched a young girl named Tasha animatedly discuss a book with her peers, her shy demeanor replaced by an infectious enthusiasm.
