A section of the wall slid inward silently, revealing a narrow passage behind it.

Then harder. Nothing. The shelf didn’t budge. I frowned and bit my lip. I placed my shoulder against the side of the shelf and pushed slightly. It barely moved, just enough to create a small gap. Dust fell into my hair and made me cough. “Okay,” I muttered. “That helped.” I reached in again and pulled at the book. This time, it slid free with a soft scraping sound. I stumbled back slightly. I nearly lost my balance. The book landed in my hands.

"Help me stop this." He tilted his head. Those eyes glinted like twin mirrors to some other world. "When something has begun," he said calmly, "you cannot stop it." And then the pain hit. Hot and wild burning sensation, tearing through my backbone like a thunderbolt. My muscles twisted. Bones cracked. My garments ripped at the seams. I screamed, not from fear, but from the sheer impossibility of what my body was doing. I was changing. Shifting. It wasn't supposed to be possible. The moon was gone. I had never shifted before. Not even get anywhere near.

After a couple of minutes, and on the verge of blowing away, they grabbed the shelving handles and slowly and carefully, turning their back to the explosion, the books reassembled in their own columns. The guys' eyes widened in shock, holding back their reactions. Everywhere became so quite like a graveyard. The screen was surreal, and when they stood up, they couldn't believe it. "What! Bookshelves that stretch up high above me welcome me as I step inside, followed by the smell of old paper and ink. I head over to the literature section at the back of the library and scan through the lines of Russian and English classics. My fingers trail over the spine of one of the books that's been on my TBR for a while now. It's a well-worn copy of Anna Karenina. Oddly enough, the book looks like a new edition, and my fingers grip the edges, ready to pull. What the..... I don't expect what happens next to happen. In fact, it's the last thing I expect to see. The entire bookshelf shifts slightly, followed by a soft click that echoes through the silent library.

My fingers brushed the edge of a particular book which was thicker than the others and I pulled it gently but nothing happened. I pressed along the shelf’s back panel and then a soft click sounded.
