Shifting Novels & Stories

I'm not ready. "Don't resist it. Breathe and let your body do its job. It won't hurt as much if you try to relax. Next time won't be nearly as bad." Val remains in her human form, and Tae helps me out of my chair. My vision blurs, and the fire in my joints rolls down my limbs and up my spine. My jaws throb, and my fingers pop. Val told me shifting isn't painful, but this is excruciating. With Tae supporting my body and Val's voice comforting me, I take a deep breath and listen to her advice. "You're doing great, Hazie. Almost finished." Val is so close to me, rubbing my back, and I'm afraid I'll hurt her.

Pythia POV: Everything seemed so different but the same. There has been so much new information and not enough time to process it. I could hear peoples conversations from all over, I could not only feel their emotions but could see them. "Is it still overwhelming?" Tye asked. "A little, I mean with seeing emotions and intentions and hearing literally everyone it's kind of hard to separate them." I replied. "Think of it as ropes, you need to untangle them and then once they are separated it'll be much easier to handle." Tye said gently. "So how does shifting work? Does it hurt? You all make it seem so easy.'' I said. "It might hurt a little at first but the mor

Rylan said, the moment I cleared the door, "we work on transitioning back. Not just holding the shift. Shifting out of it cleanly." "What's wrong with how I do it now?" "You land on your hands and knees." "Dramatically," I added. "I land dramatically." "Smooth shifts save time," he said, ignoring me completely. "Time saves lives." I rolled my shoulders back. "Very inspiring." I shifted. Bones, fur, the world dropping two feet and rebuilding itself wider and sharper. The smells of the yard hit me all at once, damp soil, grass, Rylan's jacket, something dead and small near the far fence that we were all apparently pretending wasn't there.

In the end, they moved into Bianca's parents' rented two-bedroom. Seven people squeezed inside with barely room for luggage. Bianca and Lila started fighting almost immediately. Lila called Bianca useless; Bianca called Lila a freeloader. When Helen's migraines flared, Bianca's mother told her to wait at a public clinic. Without my doctors, Gregory's blood pressure sent him to the emergency room. Without my tuition payments, Lila was removed from private school. Ethan's company fired him too. Customs work runs on trust. No one wanted client accounts handled by a man whose wedding funding had been pulled at the altar while he owed his ex-fiancee a mountain of debt.

“Let’s go ladies.” I called out, watching the girls move faster than I had seen this month. Cassie, in particular, was moving a lot faster. Once the girls finished their laps, I had them circle up. “Congratulations ladies. We are finally moving like wolves. Now we can up the ante.” “What do you mean by that?” Charlotte, a female that just had her first shift last week, perked up. “Well now, that you’re actually running, and you have built the muscle on. Now we can break off on to shift and non shifted sides.”

Crazy how getting through the worst shit flips the script. Turns straight enemies into ride-or-die. Survival don’t give a fuck about old rules but it writes new ones in blood.

The skin from his shoulder, up his neck and onto his jaw is glowing. If he shifts in here Imelda will be hurt. We are packed in tightly as it is without Gabe’s giant wolf. Ezekiel is one of the most restrained wolves I’ve come across, but he is struggling right now. The shifting process triggers muscle tissue and bone regeneration, so when we are injured, shifting helps speed up the healing process. Whatever is happening to Gabe must be excruciating, I can see it in his eyes. He is fighting to keep Zeke inside for Imelda’s sake.

That might work for him, but I need to have some order in my life, and it's starting to look like this might be the only thing I have control over. "Don't try to keep up with me. Go at your own pace," I say and start a jog for her. She nods and begins her walk. I start slow as well. Not as slow as her but with caution. Since shifting, my movements have been slower. Tighter. The phantom pain of the shift has me guarded. I have to learn how to be in my skin again. As I work my way into a quick mile, the twins appear and start making their way over to me.

“About the shifting?” She paused, her hands stilling for a brief second before continuing. “Ethan’s always serious. You’ll learn that soon enough.” “That’s not reassuring,” I scoffed, rolling my eyes away. The sound of rustling interjected the still air. “Good.“ She said in a stern tone. “You shouldn’t feel reassured. Shifting is brutal the first time, especially under stress. But it’s necessary.” I watched as she stepped away to open a metal drawer by a locker set sitting against a charcoal black wall.

"Knew you'd show up eventually. You're too stubborn not to." "Stubbornness is one of my most attractive qualities," I mutter, and he laughs again, reaching out to tug gently on a strand of my hair. "It really is," he agrees, and then his expression shifts into something more serious. "Okay, so here's the thing about shifting. It's not actually that complicated once you get past the mental blocks. Your body knows what to do. Your wolf knows what to do. The only thing getting in the way is your human brain trying to logic its way through something that isn't logical."
