She crossed the street slow, the way you do when you’re not sure if the ground beneath your feet is still yours. Her old apartment building loomed like a ghost at the end of the block. Five floors of faded brick and boarded-up windows. The place looked gutted. Hollow. Like it, too, had been doing time in its own way. She didn’t go inside. Instead, she turned the corner and walked toward the one place she still hoped would open its door. A narrow row house with chipping paint and flowerpots that had seen better days. Meekey climbed the stoop and knocked. Twice. Then waited.

After killing her mother while she watched, I threw both of them off a building. "Ok, we can stop this now. It is making me sick." I said. Ethan nodded, and I stuffed the books in the bag and threw them in the trash can. "I will be looking for a new home in the morning. There is no way I am going to live here. I don't even want to sleep here." "You can come back to my place." Both Felix and Ethan said at the same time. "Or you two could keep my company here, since I can't be in two places at once."

He remembered everything, all the past he had been through with Hyomi, how he tried to get her out of her parents' clutches. Little Hyomi was left with little time to play with her peers. She could only watch the other children play snowballs through the window of her room. Books were Hyomi's only friends. Her parents always placed great demands on her education. But it was all too much. Hyomi was always confined, like doggie, her pet dog. While Jong was the only person who took pity on Hyomi when the girl could only look at her other friends with a drawn smile.

My bad habit was curling my toes when I was anxious. Why? I didn't move again. I stayed still. Maybe they would go away. I was done. There was no way now. "She looks dead though." It was another soldier. "Who could survive after falling from that height?" I wanted to give a thumbs up to that soldier. "What if it's an undead?" The first soldier asked with a trembling voice. "The undead city isn't far from here." Undead city? There was no such mention in the novel. Then again, the novel focussed too much on the female lead's love life.

He heads to the mall’s food court area to unpack the items and check out the plots as well. The series is a medley of genre set in a dystopic time. He is amazed at the condition of the books, they feel… brand new? He takes his time to admire and study their condition for almost a hundred times. As he grabs the orange books, he feels the hard cover and runs his hand on the embossed title – The Darkest Minds.
