Should I Read The Hobbit First Novels & Stories

I was surprised she knew the "Have Gun, Will Travel" reference, but she said that she loved Richard Boone's voice ever since she heard him as Smaug in the 1977 animated version of "The Hobbit." Then she scolded me and said I should not change the subject, she was learning here.

Embarrassed to say I’ve watched those movies about eight times! Me:Only eight? Lightweight. I must have seen them all twenty times! I watched them all in one day once. Alice:Me too, LOL. Have yet to watch all the Hobbit and all LOTR in one day though. Me:That would be fun. Maybe we should try it. I press send, my lips curving up. Alice:Ha! The man has stamina. Hayden leaned back in his chair, studying me with that easy grin that made my stomach do things it shouldn’t. “So,” he said, “Favorite book of all time. Go.” I groaned. “That’s impossible.” “Top three, then.” I rattled off a few, rambling about why they mattered to me. He listened, actually listened, even though I knew he probably couldn’t tell Tolkien from Tolstoy. Every now and then, he’d ask a question, not just to fill space but because he wanted to know. And somewhere between explaining why The Hobbit was basically a comfort blanket and arguing that fairytales weren’t just for kids, the conversation turned more personal.

"Why didn't you start with the first book?" He shrugged. "I don't know. I guess I really love Sirius Black." He looked at me and grinned. "I think he's damn wicked." I nodded. "Yeah. I cried when he died." We've reached the main gate and I could see my mom's car parked across the road, in front of a black Jeep. I knew she would start asking questions if she saw me with Hunter so I quickly took the books from his hand. "I gotta go. It's really nice to see you." I gave him a brief smile and turned around. Right before I took off, I looked at him in the eye and said, "Hunter, maybe you should go ahead and read The Goblet of Fire instead." It wasn't really my style but I gave him a wink before r

Almost. Then, a scream ripped through the idyllic scene. A high, keening wail that sliced through the quiet like shattered glass. I slowly abandoned The Hobbit. From the safety of the porch door, I cautiously looked past my yard. My parents' house was nestled on the corner of two quiet residential streets, usually peaceful, so the ear-piercing cry rang like a bell of despair.

Elion pulled a book from the shelf. "Here," Elion said. "Read this." Cale looked at the cover. The Hobbit. "Fantasy," Cale said. "Illogical." "It's a journey," Elion said. "Read the first page." Cale opened the book. He read. "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit," Cale read aloud, his voice low. "Keep going." "Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell..."
