The silence came like a held breath, silver noticed it when she woke. She lay still beneath the furs, eyes open, waiting for the familiar brush of sound along the edges of her thoughts. The whispers had become a constant companion over the past weeks, unwelcome but predictable. They curled through her mind at odd hours, pressed into her insecurities, named her fractures with cruel intimacy. This morning, there was nothing, no murmur or presence. Her chest tightened. Rylan steps somewhere past the room, with his pistol up, not making a sound and being on his guard. But his outline too sinks in the dark. Author’s POV He tried to open his eyes and failed before realising they were open. The darkness around him was heavy, oppressive, almost supernatural, it was darker than any other nights, as if someone shut off the stars and moon. But the silence was so loud that he could hear his own breathing. Roaming his eyes around he tried to figure certain shapes in that nothingness of pitch black. Except the rediating white satin curtain of the window he could see nothing. Lifting himself up from the bed he looked around to find the source of the disturbance which broke into his peaceful slumber, just a minute ago.

The soothing sound of water cascading from the fountain was inviting. I walked over to the bench and took a seat. The gentle, rhythmic sound of the water was so relaxing and soothing that I didn't notice myself drifting off to sleep. The weariness of the journey, combined with the peaceful ambiance of the garden, was too much for my tired body to resist.
