Chapter 2 “Okay, here’s the idea,” I continue, my throat dry so I grab my beer for a quick sip, the cool liquid doing nothing to calm the fire starting low in my belly. “We grab a jar or a bowl, whatever’s around, and everyone writes down dares on slips of paper. Dirty ones, the stuff we’d never admit out loud normally. Then we draw one at a time, and whoever pulls it has to do it. We set a timer if needed, but the point is to let go, see where it takes us.”

It's pathetic! He dropped that bomb and strutted off before I could fire back. I could hardly believe my ears that such boneheaded words came from the man I have loved for years. His so-called 'cozy winter promos' were just a table with free cups of cheap black coffee and some giveaway gloves out front. The coffee often went cold, untouched, and those gloves ended up in the street bin. However, Seth, of course, thought they were pure gold. Somehow, I was the one cashing in on Lily's ideas!

Pinky squinted to read it, her eyes tracing the loops and crosses. "Collection of short stories for ladies," the title read. "Stories of desire, of awakening, of the first time." Pinky blinked, her eyes widening as she read on. The handwriting was feminine, secretive, as if the writer were sharing her most guarded thoughts with only the pages. It was a confession. A revelation. As she began to read.

However, they could not reach the height and dropped back into the sea very quickly. "Gosh! There are so many of them. But they are so silly. They already know they cannot reach us but they just won't stop. Look at them. They are so funny." Sheila found it very amusing. "I think they should be called silly fish because they are so silly. The entirety of the flight was spent with each man trying to lift my spirits in their own way. Silas told ridiculous stories about jobs gone wrong, missions that had turned into absolute disasters but somehow worked out in the end. He exaggerated everything, making himself the butt of most jokes, clearly trying to make me laugh. And despite the heaviness in my chest, I found myself smiling occasionally, even chuckling at his more outrageous tales. He had read the silly story that she came up with randomly, and was even interested in reading more. So she wrote it out, in parts. She had him read the next part and awaited his reaction. It was a simple story, really. It was just about a human who ate a cursed apple and turned into a cat. Kinda like Snow White, but the apple wasn’t poisoned. Only cursed. Later on, she wrote out the ending of the story. She didn’t know if she was completely satisfied with it, but it was definitely cathartic.

I said calmly. His lips finally broke out in a grin. “Of course, Sira. I’m going to tell you a story, and you will forget all about your pain in no time.” I cocked my head to the side, in a bit to humour him. He took the bait like I knew he would, and launched into a story about two wolves. I was only half listening to it, but still the sound of Cancil’s voice slowly put me at ease. I smiled when he did, and even tried to laugh, though it sounded weird even to my ears. I figured that if I actually laughed, I would simply burst into tears. So, I stuck the fake smiles and tried my best to look invested in what he was saying.

Frowning, I ask, “If I speak later, would you cry some more?” “Probably.” “Then I don’t want to talk,” I shake my head, “I don’t want you crying.” “You’re so silly,” Violet tells me. I shake my head once more. I was not silly. Silly people make other people laugh. Silly people always make jokes. If there was anyone silly, it was Gray and not me. “If I promise not to cry when you’re talking, would you give me the honor of saying something at my wedding? I really want to hear you speak, Blue. And I’m sure the others would be more than happy to listen to your stories.”

Sienna told me you listened to all her Mr. Flopsy stories and even laughed.” Lily nodded but still wouldn’t let go. “She’s the best storyteller. Mr. Flopsy saved the day with carrot cake. He told the carrots they had to behave or no more baking. Can Sienna tell me more stories tomorrow?”
