We’re going to shift and hunt with her. Silver’s wolf is flawed, just as she is. Her fur is the tone of her natural eye color; sky-blue. She’s huge for a shifter wolf and has silver wings that span out a couple of yards in each direction. A silver crescent moon shines brightly on her forehead between her orbs, which hold all three hues-blue, silver and gold. ‘Even her wolf is an ugly freak of nature! Stand down, damn it! She’s not our mate! You better not do anything to embarrass the shit out of me! I would never accept that abomination as my mate!’

Silver didn’t need to ask what it was—she had always felt it. She remembered the night she was born, the sky illuminated by a moon that had turned completely silver, casting the forest in an ethereal glow. Her parents, exhausted and elated, had held her close, their faces pale with awe. Even in her infancy, Silver had felt that the moon’s glow had left something inside her—something that pulsed quietly, waiting for the right moment to awaken.

Adrian swung his gun toward the stairwell. “Strike squad! They’ve found us!” Dozens of shadows surged upward hunters in silver armor, moving too fast and, too precise to be human. Crowe tilted his head slightly, silver light flashing in his eyes. “Not mine. They’re Silver Hounds bio-soldiers bred by Dr. Alaric.” Evelyn sprang up, thumbed the safety, and let three rapid rounds fly. One creature toppled, but instead of red the blood shimmered silver, hissing as it slicked across the concrete.

He had remembered that his brother had a high weakness to silver and he knew that he had gotten a silver ring in his pocket. He placed the strand into a transparent vial which he put into another device for further analysis. The result showed the atomic composite as well as a mixed DNA helix relative to a bipedal creature. “What did you find, professor?” Inquired a curious agent. “Do you think the strand came from one of the cattle?”

Jeremy’s intuition rarely proved wrong. And neither did Silver’s noises. The horse always made that same huffing sound when he’d found a new loyal subject from whom to demand attention. Silver was the worst kind of bleeding heart. Friend to all and foe to none, as long as they gave him the ample attention he thought he deserved. Apparently, even from a lost she-wolf.

The book was flat, with only a few pages, and that intrigued me even more. I opened the first page and began to read; “The Silver Bloods are a rare breed of werewolves, descended from the moon goddess herself. It is a line of only female wolves. Not that males are born from these females, but they never seem to inherit the qualities of their mother.” Interesting. There were special wolves out there that were more powerful than the norm. I turned a few more pages and stopped; “Characteristics: They appear fairly normal in their human form, except for their silver hair.”

He breathes next to my ear. I can smell the hot metal from here. The next minute I feel it searing pain on my skin by my lower back. I wail from the pain and my breath is gone. I see white. He then throws silver powder on my wound to prevent it from closing and healing. I scream louder it burns like hell, he just laughs at me. If it ever heals there will be a scar. I throw up from the pain and my tears are flowing down my face.

However, soon my stomach roiled violently. I bolted to the bathroom and vomited up everything I’d just eaten. The hollow weakness in my body dragged me back to that moment closest to death. I’d been tortured until I was barely alive. Afraid of answering to Daniel if I died, they called in a healer. She skimmed my test results, her brows knitting into a hard line. “Your silver poisoning has seeped into your bones, and your wolf soul is dormant. You won’t live long. “How long is your sentence? Three years? Perfect. You’ll die not long after leaving Silver Prison. No need to dirty the cell with your corpse.”
