Never! But as much as I tried to push it all away, the images stayed with me: her smiles, the ease with which she fit into a world I’d wanted badly. And the jealousy burned hotter than ever. I was still trying to distract myself with other things when I heard a knock on the door. I got up hesitant to see who was at the door. It was our neighbor from a few blocks away, Patrick. “Hi Sandra, is your sister home?” He asked with a bright smile.

“Don’t tell me you came all the way from your apartment so we could walk together to the campus?” She nodded, like a child. I couldn’t understand her enthusiasm over finding me. We weren’t friends and I didn’t want to be friends with the sister of the man who tricked me into dying so he could be set free. “We are neighbours,” she beamed. “You don’t know how happy I was when I smelled your scent. I thought I was dreaming. I mean, the girl I will be best friends with is living next to me.” Huh? I shot out of my apartment to stare at the door that belonged to my neighbours. When I peeked at her, to check if she was lying, she nodded. She looked really happy.
