Talk about awkward. “Hi!” my youngest sister exclaims, jumping up from her seat, blue eyes laser-focused on Quinn. My other two sisters spring up, too, looking to Quinn with interest, and all three of them rush over to where we’re standing in the foyer. “This is Quinn,” I say as they approach eagerly. “She’s not my girlfriend. Don’t make it weird.” I turn to Quinn, an amused smile tugging at her lips. “These are my sisters, Juliet, Jenna and Jade,” I say, pointing to each one. “Mom clearly had a thing for J names.”

Alina laughed so hard after hearing Lean say that, and she teased me because of it. “Can you please stop mentioning that?” They just giggled at me, which made me sigh. I gulped. I don’t want to ruin this happiness, but I really want to ask my sisters. “Can I ask something?” Alina’s laugh was interrupted as they gazed at each other with confusion in their eyes. “What is it?” I started fiddling with my fingers as I looked down. “Do we have a neighbor with the surname Villegas?” Silence followed that. Does that mean… When I looked up, I saw Alina shrugging, which caused me to feel a little bit of hope.

I could not understand why my neighbor was showing so much concern for someone he had only met a few days ago. Then, I froze the moment I saw his face. With his fringe swept to one side, my neighbor looked very similar to someone I used to know. It was Nathan Eastwood, the man who murdered my younger sister seven years ago. She’s a few years younger than me and stays in the apartment above mine with her older sister, Lian. Out of all my neighbors, she’s the one I think of as someone resembling an actual friend, though we aren’t close like Ramona and I are.
