Chapter 87: A Story to Tell Isabel sat by the window with an open book in her hands. The room was quiet as if it was saved only for the occasional chirping of birds outside and the soft murmur of her voice as she read aloud. Her fingers traced the words slowly while her brows furrowed in concentration.

I sit on the bed, a book on my lap. I'm barely reading, just watching the illustrations on it. It's been some time, and I've calmed down. No one's come up to check on me, yell, or do whatever they do. And I haven't come down either.

I had to see the creature who is slowly melting my heart. I knocked before I opened the door to her room. She was sitting cross-legged on the bed reading. I walked towards her slowly. I took my usual spot in my chair. She looked up, smiling at me before going back to her book. I undid my tie, tossing it on the ground. I caught her watching me from the corner of her eye. “It’s ok, I am just getting comfy.” I put my hands up as if surrendering. She went back to reading her book. Every now and again, she would steal a glance at me. I wasn’t sure if she was making sure I was still there or making sure I was still dressed. I held up the book I had brought with me. She takes a seat next to me "What are you doing?" "I'm reading". "How are you doing that? Sorry if I sound rude". I shake my head "No it's not, I understand". I stretch my book a bit forward for her to see. " These are like some sort of dots, is this how you read?". "Yea is like reading with my fingers". She gasps "Thats cool". " I'm happy you think so, most people don't". "I like people who do things in unusual ways it makes them special, I hope that didn't come out the wrong way?".

With two little ones growing, and being at least half lycans…I was going to get big. I head to the library first to pick a book and take it with me into the sitting room. Judging by the silence in the palace I was alone and the chairs in the library were not the most comfortable for my lower back. I could study just as well on a soft cosy sofa than a hard back wooden chair. I am a few pages in when Ricardo enters the sitting room finding me curled up with a blanket reading a boring book. I was really trying to look interested. “Morning, struggling with that one?” He chuckles as he leans against the side of a sofa.

"Urrhhh!" Candice exclaimed as she clasped the book closed. She was sitting outside, on her balcony reading a book. Or so, she thought. Three hours had passed with her still unable to finish up a page. It was not the fault of the book, 'The Porter' was an interesting book, she was not just into reading books. She preferred watching TV, browsing F******k, watching new dance trends on TikTok, or keeping up with the real estate market. She was a realtor after all, she should be working, looking for new prospects not here sitting on her hands, reading a book with nothing better to do.

“Bird watching? Knitting? Swimming? Karate? Underwater basket-weaving?” She laughed at the last one. The sound was sweet and made his heart speed up again. At this rate, he was going to get his full cardio workout without having to go to the gym. “Reading,” she answered, finally relenting. “I like to read.” He could see her in his mind's eye, curling up on a gray evening with a cup of tea and a book. Funny, how the chair she was sitting in was his and the view out the window matched the one from his home.

I stood up and walked over to the individual couches surrounding the fireplace to investigate. The thick carpet under my feet muffled the sound of my footsteps. I stared at the fire that was burning in the fireplace for a while while sighing, maybe the sound was just my imagination ... When I turned towards the individual sofas my body froze in surprise, my sight fell on a figure sitting on one of the sofas. Because the backrest was high enough to go over his head so I didn't see him from where I was reading on the couch. A middle-aged teenager is seriously reading a thick book on his lap. For a full minute I just stood there staring at him, too surprised and confused to find I wasn't alone

He placed the book on his knees and turned open the first page. He read it and the more he read, the more his facial features changed. His eyebrows came down, the corners of his lips narrowed and his jaw ticked. He turned another page, and then another. I leaned back and rested my hands on my belly while I waited for him to finish. Minutes passed and I looked out over the lake, my mind was at ease out here. The lake had tiny waves dancing on the surfaces, the birds were flying and there was a serene relaxation as the wind blew through the chimes.

With the specific contained laughter of someone who had decided that laughing openly would be unkind and was paying a significant physical price for that decision. By mid-afternoon it had become a group activity. I was in the library. Reading. Actually reading, the book open and the content entering my brain, which was a thing I had been successfully doing for approximately forty minutes when the door opened. Draco came in. He sat in the armchair. He opened his own book. He said nothing. I said nothing. We read. This was, objectively, a completely normal thing to do two people in a library reading books. There was nothing remarkable about it.
