We stood there, frozen, our eyes locked on each other. For a moment, I forgot about the crowd, the music, and the potential threats. All I could focus on was the spark that had ignited between us. I felt like I was drowning in the depths of her eyes, and I couldn’t look away. It was as if we were the only two people in the room, and nothing else mattered. I was Six. And I was in trouble.

The massive steel doors were an anomaly, an industrial scar cut directly into the ancient, volcanic heart of Mount Meru. They stood twenty feet high, built flush against the jagged basalt, coated in a thick layer of yellow sulfur and centuries of subterranean grime. Above the seam where the two doors met, the faded, painted logo of 'Six'—a circle bisected by intersecting lines—stared down at them like a blind, mechanical eye.

June was born from a sun flower. June glanced at Seth. Seth had bright red eyes. The kind of red you see when the first drop of blood escapes the flesh. Red Lily spiders was the first thing, June thought of when he saw those red eyes. Seth’s black horns were tall and sturdy looking as they sprouted on both side of his head. He grinned again, flashing his razor sharp teeth. June looked away from Seth, “I am.” He answered. “No wonder,” Seth mused as he stood next to June who was still hovering mid air, “you are beautiful.”

Sleep takes me fast. And for the first time in six days I dream. Not about stone walls or grey light or masks. About a hall. About light coming through windows that have been closed for sixty years. About a man at the end of it... waiting.

I don’t get more than half a second to process this world before there is a bone-rattling ROAR from the cave. Korrin jerks his head up, then throws his body in front of mine. He is crouched and ready, utterly naked, but my horny brain is too busy panicking to enjoy the view. “What is that?” I hiss, clutching his tail on instinct. “AND WHY DOES IT HAVE SIX EYES?!”

When Cameron sees me beside Axle, he says, “What the fuck dude? Did you replace me?” I look up at him and say, “I thought you said you needed a partner? I’m not stealing someone else’s spot.” “It’s not stealing if I give it to you. Cam, you can play the next one. I think you’ll live if you sit out one game.” Cam grumbles something and then goes to stand at the side. “So obviously that’s Cam, and over there is Jameson and Ethan.” I wave at them and say, “Hello, I’m Six,” and Jameson says, “We know,” with a smile. Apparently my reputation precedes me.

He stood tall, taller than any mortal man, his 6’8” frame towering over me with an elegance that was as terrifying as it was mesmerizing. The dim glow that remained from the symbols on the floor revealed his features. His eyes were the first thing I noticed: twin pools of molten gold and crimson, their depths swirling with an intensity that made my breath catch. They glowed faintly in the dark, sharp and serpentine, as though they could see through every lie, every secret, every hidden corner of my soul. His gaze pinned me in place, rendering me both enthralled and terrified.

The man also bowed gracefully "I made everyone wait, I'm sorry." About six feet tall, with white skin which suggested minimal exposure to the sun, Anglo-Saxon features and well-groomed purple hair. His eyes denoted his inorganic nature, being cybernetic devices similar to futuristic eyes that released a faint dark purple glow. He felt as if his eyes were capable of seeing much more than the mere human eye is capable of.

Alpha Theo’s POV Gasps echoed through the room. My mother paled visibly, her hands trembling. Oscar stepped forward, his eyes wide with disbelief. “Theo, have you lost your mind?” my father barked, his voice sharp with alarm. “No, I haven’t,” I said firmly. “I’ve searched six countries in forty-eight hours, and no one has a cure. No one even has the antidote to reverse the damage. But this doctor—he says it’s possible. If I give her one of my eyes, she’ll be able to see again.”

"We were just running . . ." "What did they look like?" I ask, even as I try to stanch a particularly deep gash across her abdomen. "How many?" "Six . . . maybe seven," she gasps. "Humans, but . . . not just humans. Something wrong about them. Their eyes . . .” She shudders, a memory flashing across her face. "Empty. Like looking at death."
