His hand cupped my face, warm and certain, and for a heartbeat, everything else disappeared. When we finally parted, I could still feel the ghost of his lips on mine a promise, a memory, a beginning. And you know that without him, she is weak.” The third skeleton said, with a tone of disappointment.

A vicious, overwhelming aura emanated from the skeleton almost instantaneously. James and Zeno were swept several meters away due to the skeleton’s aura as they were caught completely off-guard. Meanwhile, the skeleton scanned the surroundings and rose up in the air. Then, it flew toward the sky at an incredible speed. “Stop right there!” Zeno shouted and quickly went after the skeleton. Just as Zeno was about to catch up to the skeleton, it turned around abruptly and blasted two laser beams from its eye sockets aiming at Zeno. Zeno could sense the threatening force of the skeletonʼs attack, and he swiftly dodged out of the way.

It wasn’t intact but rather partial; Brad could make out one eye socket and the nose hole, and on one side it curved down into part of the jaw bone. A human skull. Every so often, the horses would rest, and Brad would stare at the glowing screen, wringing his hands together and murmuring to himself. Then his hands would dive back down and the galloping recommence. He’d been working for over two hours now, the story flowing out of him like sweat. Some kind of wall had been torn down, and he was on a real streak.

"What are you?" Belinda and Martina exchanged a wary glance. "Don't ask questions," the skeleton snapped, its voice rising in anger. "You know about our powers?" The sisters hesitated, sensing the danger emanating from the skeleton. "Don't ask questions," it repeated, its voice dripping with menace. The skeleton's empty sockets seemed to bore into their very souls, and Belinda and Martina felt a shiver run down their spines. "You two must pay before you pass, not in gold but a fragment of your magic," the skeleton declared, its voice cold and unyielding.

Chapter 1 Zara’s POV “You fucking prick, it landed on you again?” I snapped, glaring at Kai across the cheap coffee table littered with empty beer bottles.
