Soren chuckles, a dark, knowing sound. “Trust me, I don’t think we’d be the first to have that idea.” He jerks his head toward a shadowed corner behind me.
I turn, my brow furrowing. A small, sturdy wooden table stands a little distance away from the water’s edge, looking entirely too domestic for a subterranean cave.
I walk toward it slowly, my boots clicking softly on the stone. My steps falter, and my stomach does a strange little flip when I see the haphazard arrangement on the tabletop.
