I learned to be thankful and quiet. That acceptance made me hate Christmas. Love songs made my skin crawl. The lights under our tree looked like glass eyes. The ribbons on the presents were traps. Every year, the house tuned itself to cheer and I pretended to enjoy it. The twenty-fifth became the night when a new kind of cold touched my bones. It was the day the truth had crawled out at me like an animal. It was the day I had learned how much of my life had been decided by other hands.

“But where were you two?” Before either can answer, Zeke catches sight of the Christmas tree. His eyes widen with glee and he immediately starts wriggling in Sky’s arms. “There!” he cries out. “Dada, tree! There!” “No, Zeke, you aren’t allowed to go there,” Sky denies firmly, trying to hold him still. Zeke whines louder, kicking his tiny feet. “No… Dada… there!” “Sky, let him go,” Zoe says with a little sigh. “Let him play with the others.”

I went home to rest. The next day, I went in as usual and found the staff busier than normal. There were extra people cleaning and trucks of fresh feed arriving, making the animals restless. Zane must’ve gotten scared. To keep things peaceful over Christmas, he’d finally scraped together some money and splurged a little for the animals.

“This is the message." I glared at the screen, the words registering before I could even finish reading. “Shipment NX043- delivery time 12:15- date 12/03/25. Everything was the opposite of how it was supposed to be. Above, was my number boldly written as the sender. “There has to be a mistake," I said, reaching out for my own phone.

"Call Vladimir worm once more, and I will cut your tongue. Do you hear me?" "Yes, Alpha." After I leave the newly formed pack, I forget my small discussion with Max. When I get home, I am so tired. All I want to do is sleep. But there is no time for it because Christmas is near and is a favorite holiday of the pack. Everyone comes together to prepare for Christmas. We have a big Christmas tree in the park that we usually decorate. All the pups help decorate it. On the 24th we have a big party in the main Pack House for those that were unmated.

Chapter 33 "Maybe we'd get a Christmas tree but it wouldn't be a big one." I said and gasped excitedly, hitting his arm. "Ooouu, and candy canes! I want lots and lots of candy canes!" Kyle chuckled down at me, "You know, I find it really weird that you want to decorate your house when you wouldn't be spending Christmas at your house." I let out a soft laugh, "Psh, so? It's good to have that Christmas feeling because it's Christmas!"

He looked away and just focused on walking. We were busy walking until we heard animal cries, and that is when we saw a group of animals running down the mountain. I was about to turn around but I felt a shake on the ground. This isn't good. I grabbed Zale and started running towards the foot of the mountain, I stopped, looked at him, and asked, "Can you fly?" He nodded and I did the same and jumped on the tree leaving him on the ground. "Do you want to die or what? Jump and summon your wings!" I ordered him, he doesn't know what was going on. Since he lives far away from the mountains, of course, he wouldn't know what to do when there is a landslide bound to happen.

I ask, trying not to gasp or squeal. He shakes his head. “No, come on! Not thousands, just a hundred thousand.” Although I don’t refuse to let him take my hand, I want to scold him and how he keeps giving me flashy things. I’m about to say something when I see the K&W SIC engraved on each of the diamond. I look up and my eyes are glassy as I stare at him. He’s made something special for our ‘Smile it’s Christmas’ movement and I love it.

‘Do you guys know what I am holding? ‘An invitation card, it’s so obvious’ Kyle butted in and she scoffed. ‘It’s our bonding time, it’s an invitation from our company’ she said and Mr. Williams cleared his throat ‘Sorry, from Stanley’s company’ she corrected. ‘SW group has organized a Christmas for all event for families, so we will all spend Christmas together’ she explained with a smile. ‘Is it in Paris or Disney? I am so excited,’ Kyle said with excitement. ‘Why go to a place full of technology, traffic, and pollution? When we could go somewhere to enjoy the fresh air’

Nikky sprawled towards her, before bouncing on the couch, his eyes blinking rather cutely, "Did you guys kiss already?" Okay, weird. For a eleven year to say this kind of thing, it brought out the fluttery feeling down to her heart. "Okay. Okay. I don't get." From nowhere, Sky appeared from the other side of the room, holding a burger. "You are dating my dumb head friend, So happy for you guys." He squished a tiny bit into his mouth. Why won't I just disappear now? Zoey pondered, the house was deeply decorated in the holiday spirit, Thanksgiving gone, Christmas, oh she couldn't wait.
