Chapter 13 Later when Sophia reached home, she was welcomed by her parents with warm smiles. And when she reached her room, her dear room, she realized how much she'd missed her bed. She collapsed on the sheets and grinned like a maniac with closed eyelids and felt every ounce of comfort the bed had to offer. Her body relaxed which was sore from the whole long bus ride from the camp and back home. Oh, at how ease she felt! So much better than those sleeping bags back at the camp. She didn't even realize when her serene and heavy eyes dropped and she fell in a deep slumber, only to wake up feeling like she had slept for not more an hour when in reality she was asleep for more than eight, late

I miss Nora. After much thought on what I should do next, I decided to retire to my bedroom. A good sleep was much needed at this time. I can not remember that I actually slept for anything more than three hours apart from the night I arrived here. Perhaps I really should consider controlling my addictions. I believe pregnant women are always tired. But drop a book in my hand and I will not sleep for months. As soon as I stepped into my bedroom, I collapsed on my rather cloudy bed. It didn’t take up to two full minutes before my snores filled every corner of the room. It was at that moment I was thankful for Louis’ instruction. It truly was a wonderful sleep.

_Leah's POV_ I lay in bed, my body tense, waiting for Tariq to fall asleep. Every breath I took was shallow, my heart pounding against my ribs like it might give me away. Beside me, I could hear Tariq’s breathing slow, becoming steady and deep, signaling that he had finally drifted into sleep.

He then started reading a book. "The light's too bright. I can't sleep. Switch it off!" Sage said in an impatient tone after Ian finished reading two pages. Ian ground his teeth in response to Sage's clear provocation. He set the book down and switched off the main lights in the bedroom, leaving only a small nightlight near the headboard. The room immediately quietened in the dim light. Ian was unable to fall asleep either due to the lingering fragrance in the bed or the earlier-than-usual bedtime.

Bellamy thinks for a moment then nods to himself, a decision made. “Lie back and listen then.” I tilt my head in curiosity but I comply. He leans over and tucks in the sides of the blanket around me, making sure I'm snug and comfortable. Next, he grabs the book he was reading earlier from the bedside table. He ignores the bookmark and flips back to the beginning. Then he starts to read, his voice calm and relaxing. It’s some mystery book about a bank heist. I’m so tired I barely even pay attention, I just let the soothing sound of Bellamy’s voice lull me back to sleep. During the night I wake twice more. Both times I’m crying and I have the impression of fear, but I don’t remember what exact

Like it’s coming from far away. I don’t catch a word. All I feel is the slow pull of sleep creeping in. My grip on the jersey tightens, fingers curling into the fabric as I turn slightly on the bed. The heat in my body dulls just enough. My breathing steadies. Darkness starts to take over. The last thing I register is Harper’s voice, faint and annoyed. “Yeah… go ahead and sleep. Stubborn idiot.” And then everything goes quiet.

Peaceful on the surface. But something feels off. I lie down slowly, pulling the covers over myself. My eyes grow heavy. Sleep comes. Softly. But not gently. Because deep into the night A sound breaks the silence. Soft. Careful. From inside my room. And I am no longer alone.

I felt myself drifting off to sleep faster than I could ever remember doing before now. I wondered absent mindedly if it was all the adventures catching up to me or if it was Zane’s presence. I hadn’t noticed that Zane never answered my last warning and when I felt him pull me into his arms; I was already in the clutches of sleep and I didn’t have it in me to pull away. I tighten my towel, swallow, then force myself to stand and go change into the only thing I have clean a thin pair of cotton shorts and a tank top that does nothing to hide that I’m not wearing a bra. His eyes flick up the moment the mattress dips under my weight. He sees everything and pretends none of it affects him. I lie stiffly on my side, facing away, staring at the wall I used to plaster with stickers before I left this house behind. Minutes pass. The silence grows unbearable. Then his voice comes low, quiet and careful. “You can’t sleep like that.” I pause. “…Like what?” “Stiff.” A shift of fabric. “Harriet, I know you. You need pressure to fall asleep.”

How could he expect to receive the benefits of speaking to a counsellor, when he couldn’t be honest with her? “Well,” she said when he didn’t respond, going to her desk and opening the laptop. “I have a sheet that I will print of recommendations for helping to sleep after a traumatic event. They’re pretty straight forward. Making sure that your bed and den is as comfortable as possible, warm, fresh sheets, good pillows, dark and secure. Make sure that you are relaxed and tired before going to bed. Some suggestions are to avoid TV or screen time for at least ninety minutes before trying to sleep, have a bath, and meditate.
