I was thankful it was dark, so I wouldn’t have the added embarrassment of him seeing my face clearly, which I’m sure was equally unattractive.
He tried to put his arm around me, but I shirked out of his embrace. I was already mortified enough as it is, I didn’t need or want his pity. He let out a sigh and took my arm once again, but this time his grasp was much gentler, guiding me rather than dragging me.
We continued to walk until Josh came to a sudden halt. “What are they?” he asked, pointing ahead.
At the edge of the tree line were four or five tiny blue fluttering creatures. They were even smaller than Poppy the pixie had been, and were sticking close to one another.
