At around the same time, somewhere else near the Fire Border, a blonde haired guy and a black haired guy were walking in a prairie accompanied by a pack of flying stingray like creatures. These creatures’ color was pastel, almost pale orange, and their body was slightly transparent. Their tail was thin and long, kind of a rat’s tail but longer. They also emitted this blobby sounds as their wings moved, making the two humans slightly uncomfortable because it sounded weird. “Jai, can you tell them to stop glowering?” the blonde guy asked.

And as she hummed, she talked to the odd little creatures that lived in what they called the Candlewood. Some were as small as ladybugs and others as large as bumblebees. The brave ones climbed up Iris's knees and snatched away tallow beads to eat. The shy ones flickered in and out of view like the flames that crowned their candle-trees. As they moved, they often sang in high tremulous voices that Iris could only understand if she peered at the world through her eyelids as if in a dream.

The cavern ceiling shimmered overhead, mirroring the lagoon so perfectly it felt like they were suspended between two night skies. Then something flickered near Kaelani’s shoulder. She stilled. Another flash of light darted through the air—quick, playful, gone before her eyes could track it. Then three more appeared. Tiny figures. Kaelani’s eyes widened. They weren’t sparks. They were creatures. Small as her palm, with delicate wings that shimmered like stained glass under moonlight. Their bodies glowed faintly, casting soft halos of color as they flitted through the cavern air.

Their dozens of sharp teeth, which were lined up in their mouths perfectly, were gritting together as if waiting for me. Their shape is like that of a soldier ant, however, they weren't one.

The flying creatures were now already gone, "what are those? They're man-size creatures with a huge snout, rodent-like ears, and fur-covered abdomens. Never seen this kind of creatures, they're different like you." Charlotte whispered. Antigone smiled.

Finally, she saw two tiny black specks high up in the sky. “Birds?” she asked hopefully. Rave shook his head. “I don’t think so. They’re not flying like any birds I’ve ever seen.” Leesa didn’t like the sound of that. If they weren’t birds, then just what were they? In any event, she hoped it was just coincidence that they were flying in their direction. As the creatures flew closer, Leesa could finally see the wings, which flapped in a slow, sweeping motion. “They look like small dragons,” Rave said. “Small being a relative term—they’re at least as big as a person. Their bodies are covered in scales.”

She quickly made a harness out of a rope for herself, fastened one end to the mecha, then dropped down into the nest. Immediately after she reached the bottom, she inspected the first dead creature in front of her. It was several times larger than her and looked like a rat but not quite it either. Its long tail had spikes all over. Its nose looked like a spider. Upon touching it, its hard brown bristles was repulsive to leave her hand on.
