How dare he look sorrowful? Gathering all of my nerves, I forced myself to smile. It was a smile I hoped would look happy but I knew it must look odd; odd and pitiful. “Congratulations then,” I said with my useless smile. “Why are you congratulating me?” He asked. “Congratulations on finding your mate,” I said, “You must have been excited to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. I wish you all the best going forward.” I started to sound like a HR personnel but it did not matter. Even if I sounded like a broken record or an alien, it did not matter. The only thing that mattered was the anguish tearing up my insides.

Not even my broad chest and six packs could be hidden by the red shirt. Everyone kept telling me how flawless I was from head to toe with their cheesy smiles and eyes full of admiration. If only they knew how much I wish not to hear all that. Gosh! I don't need all those compliments at all from anyone. With a hopeless shrug, I walked out of the room, shutting the door angrily as if it was the cause of my entire problem. My hands were both dipped inside my black trousers pockets while I took a step at a time, keeping a straight face. Smiling was like the most stupid thing to do. Why should I ever smile when there is nothing to smile about in my life?

Caleb giggled, "Come on, I only smiled because I saw you smile. Smiles are contagious." I stared at him with a puzzled look. " What do you mean?" Caleb chuckled. "Listen bro, you don't have to pretend you know nothing I speak of. You and I know that you're very excited to have heard the news about her. You can hide your smile all you want but I have clearly seen you smile." I glared angrily at him, “You saw wrongly,” He let out a hearty laugh, “I grew up with you, you can be as cold as ice on the surface but deep inside you are nothing but a Volcano.”

With a wide smile, I got up to open the door and as expected, he was standing there with his naughty smile on his face.

I looked up at the faded walls and smiled. This place was far from the Blake villa, far from memories, far from Adrian. Perfect. Inside the apartment, it was quiet.
