Smiling Man Novels & Stories

His mouth hadn’t moved the whole time he was ogling me. Looking over his shoulder, I saw a middle-aged man with slightly graying hair smiling at me, his right hand being waved back and forth as he tried to get my attention. I looked at the guy in front of me and I saw that he had relaxed a bit, as if he finally understood something that was very confusing before.

When he smiles, you could see his perfectly white teeth. The way he smiled showed a lot about his character. He looks like one of those mellow surfers who would say “Gnarly!” quite often and spend most of his time in the water and drinking fresh coconuts water all day. And he had this vibe to him that showed that he was a fun guy to hang with anytime.

I know I was angry but this was the first time in my life I had ever hit a man. “I….I..did not mean to…I am sorry “ I apologized. His eyes found mine, I expected him to be angry or mad but instead he looked happy? He had a small smile at the corner of his lips as he stared at me. Was this man a psycho? Who the hell smiles after being slapped? “Are you okay?” I asked. Maybe I hit him harder than I thought and his brain was affected. “Do you know you are the only woman who has hit me?” He said, his smile getting wider and wider with each second that passed.

The four members looked happy together with those genuine smiles plastered on their faces. I touch on the surface right to the kid who I think is Airo. He can smile. I remove my hand and look at the next picture. The two look grown a bit but their mother is not there anymore. I couldn’t see the same smile they had from the first photo. They are indeed smiling here, but not that bright. The next pictures are two young men who lost their smiles growing up together. “Ciana, I brought you your drink.” I move my head to his direction and suddenly feel a little pain in me. This man is hiding a lot of things in him. All by himself.

feels so familiar. He’s a short, quirky man with a prominent belly, little wrinkles all around his eyes while he smiles, just underlining the friendliness on his face. He must be in his fifties or early sixties. The type of person you’d imagine who has lived a happy life with a lot of love, passion, and laughter. Someone who’d be your friend in need without expecting anything back. “I’m feeling better, I guess. Just a sore throat," I start off, not wanting to knock off the main point just yet.

She looked at the man more boldly. The man had his head lowered, his long, thick eyelashes almost covering his brown eyes. His thin lips curled upwards, as if he were born with a smile. Feeling her gaze, the man looked up and met her eyes. Caught staring, Eulalia felt embarrassed and didn’t know where to look. The man grinned, revealing two canine teeth. His smile was dazzling, like sunlight—so bright and warm that you couldn’t help but want to get closer. Eulalia suddenly felt a strong sense of incongruity. The man’s smile was beautiful but too innocent, almost childish.

The toothless man says, with one of his hands gripping the front of his jeans. He is on his feet, so from the very dull light coming from an opening on the brick wall, I can see his smile. He smiles too much for an ugly man. His face scares me. That weird ugly smile scares me the more. His words scare me the most. “Manage? She damn fine. A few slaps will make those pale cheeks become rosier.” I don’t turn, as I am scared I might lock eyes with the man at the wall who had just said this.

Yeah, maybe I did have a resting bitch face. “No one has ever seen you smile,” He spoke, my eyes were glued to the magazine, wishing I could see through it. I wanted to see the man who wanted to hide from me yet had no problem talking to me. “Will you smile for me, Aria?” I was shocked at his question. I couldn’t see him but I heard the smile in his words. A smile. The man wanted a smile. No. He wanted me to smile. For him. I cleared my throat, gripping the straps of handbag tightly as I spoke, “I don’t smile for creeps.”

She sighed weakly in her heart, looked up, and pulled out a sweet smile at the man, " Be good, and obedient! That's against the law, and I don't like people looking at you as if watching monkeys." Strangely, a man has a sweet smile. He was in a good mood. "OK, I'll get in the car and wait for you."

He smiles at me once more. Damn, that smile does strange things to me! His hazel eyes seem to almost light up when he smiles, little wrinkles next to his eyes appear, making his face seem instantly more animated. I see him looking at the lock screen of my phone as he goes to hand it back. The picture is of me and my brother with our father at a pack event. All formal.
