DAMIAN “Are you sure you want to go out now?” Luis asks, voice tired at the edges like the cigarette smoke curling between us. I smile, thumb flicking the lighter. The flame paints his face for a second before I bring the cigarette to my lips. Heat and familiar ritual steadies me. “Yeah,” I say. “It’s time.” Luis watches the smoke drift up and settle on the ceiling. “Why?” he asks, and it’s not curiosity it’s the warning of a man who’s seen too many plans end at gunmetal and blood.

Hadeon laughed, “Oh, Suki, please. I’m not much older than you – what, like 4 or 5 years? You can skip the formalities with me. Call me Hadeon.” Suki nodded. “Of course.” He stepped closer to her, watching her carefully as he pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. Opening the pack, he offered it to her, “Smoke?” “No, thank you,” she cleared her throat, “my father would murder me if I smoked. Plus, I’m not a fan of the smell.” She tapped the tip of her nose before leaning against the edge of the brick wall. A soft scoff escaped his lips as he put the pack away. “Ah, of course, enhanced senses can be such a bitch.”

He watched as Liam pulled one of the sticks of tobacco out and lit it before offering the pack to Layne. "You might need it for what we got to talk about here."

His fingers brushed the cool cardboard of the cigarette pack, dragging it closer. He tapped one out, rolling it between his fingers before lighting it with an unhurried ease. The flame flared briefly, catching the edge of his expression in gold. Felix sighed beside him, leaning back in his chair with an exasperated shake of his head. Damon didn’t look at him — just inhaled slowly, the end of the cigarette glowing faintly in the dim light, before blowing a long stream of smoke toward the ceiling.
