I was literally awake last night, watching that 996 view count like my life depended on it – refreshing, pacing, hoping – and when it finally flipped to 1.0k, I swear my heart did a whole somersault.

The pages smelled of new paper and ink, but there was something more there — an earthy, ancestral odor that seemed to emanate from the knowledge contained in the words. I flipped through the chapters, the rituals, the recipes. Nothing seemed real. Nothing seemed right. They were vague words, obscure metaphors, warnings that confused more than they explained. My head hurt, my eyes burned, but I kept turning pages, looking for something — anything — that would give me direction. And then, on page 147, I found it.

“I love reading.” She narrowed her eyes. “You’re reading sex, aren’t you?” “Ew! God, no,” I shot back, trying not to laugh. “It’s a good book—with just a little smut.” “Mmm-hmm,” she hummed, amused. “Can I read it then?” “What? Hell no!” My cheeks flushed instantly. She tisked and shook her head. “You’re reading smut.” I groaned. “You’re so annoying.”

Albert stated, his eyes glaring coldly at the Beta. Jayden no longer argued because he knew it would only make Albert angry. He nodded, though deep down he still doubted the Alpha's words. "What's wrong?" asked Jayden a moment later when he saw Albert flipping through the pages as if looking at something strange. "There's a page missing in this book," Albert replied. Jayden straightened his seat to look at the part of the book Albert was pointing to. "It's not just one page," Jayden said when he saw the tear marks.

The spine was slightly cracked from use, and the pages felt soft under my fingers as I opened it to where I’d last stopped reading. But as soon as I saw the first few lines, I froze. The smut part. Of course, I’d left off right before things were about to get steamy. I had deliberately avoided reading that part yesterday, knowing full well that it would only make things worse. But now? Now it felt like a trap, one that I knew I should avoid but couldn’t resist falling into.

The smell of old parchment, dried sage, and damp cellar immediately flooded the small cabin. Reaching inside, I pulled out a massive, leather-bound tome. The cover was cracked, unmarked, and held together by frayed iron hinges. I dropped it onto the wood with a heavy thud, followed by three smaller, equally ancient books. "Bro, this is giving major Salem witch trial vibes," Amberly muttered, stepping closer to inspect the pile. She poked the cover of the thickest book with her index finger. "Are we about to summon a demon? Because I feel like my life has enough drama right now."

“I already finished the book you lent me. Can I borrow more?” “Sure, do you want the same romance, or do you want it to be different? Like smut?” she asked, her grin was so wide I could practically see all her teeth. “Smut?” The word felt odd on my tongue, so I tilted my head, genuinely puzzled. Not only did she look absolutely thrilled, but it was the first time I’d ever heard that word. For most of my life, the only books I’d read were about history or science. Novels were still a new territory.

“For you.” I could hardly believe it. Flipping through the composition book, I could make out pages upon pages filled with neat handwriting, what looked like ten chapters worth of reading, and even… a couple of smutty scenes. My cheeks warmed as I flipped to a random page and read something about the dragon turning into a man, and…

Luna left the room and Tyler continued to show me how everything works so I could navigate my way around. "There are some dirty entries in there." Tyler snickered, glancing over at the large, old book in front of me. "What!" I looked up at him. "Like what?" "Flip to page 157." I quickly did, dying of curiosity. As soon as the book was laid open, my hands flew to my mouth and I gasped. "Holy Artemis, it's an illustration of two wolves doing it." I burst out laughing. "Why is that in a medical book?" Then I looked up at him. "Oh my Goddess, and you memorized the page number!"

A single table sat in the middle, and on it lay an old book, leather-bound and faded, its edges eaten by time. My fingers trembled as I touched it. The cover cracked under my nails, and when I opened it, dust flew up like tiny ghosts. The pages were filled with strange writings, numbers, and sketches of molecules. But halfway through, I stopped. A page had been torn out. My chest tightened. Where had I seen that before? I ransacked my brain, flipping through memories like a madwoman, until it hit me. In Damien’s study, there had been a stray paper I had glimpsed on his desk one night, half-buried under a pile of contracts. It had the same odd handwriting and the same yellowing edges.
