Behind us, a few security vehicles tear out of the auction driveway, sirens blaring.
Carlton’s fingers dig into my shoulder. “Shit… they’re chasing us.”
I glance in the rearview mirror. Nothing yet, but they’ll be back on us in seconds. “Let them come. Driver, lose them.”
The SUV swerves down a side street, the driver nodding. Carlton twists, eyes wide. “You’re insane. Every time—fucking insane.”
“And every time you love me for it,” I reply, voice low, almost a growl.
