She grabbed my hand and pulled me outside. The snow fell in large, soft flakes in a silence that felt vast and grand. We walked side by side beneath the streetlights, the thick snow crunching underfoot. "Are you cold?" Amelia asked me. "No." I shook my head. Inside, my heart was warm. Suddenly, Amelia stopped and turned to face me. "Charlie," she said seriously, "there's something I've been wanting to tell you." I looked at her. Snowflakes fell on her hair, eyelashes, and shoulders. Her eyes sparkled, like they were filled with starlight.

(Sarah's POV) I forced myself to focus, picking up one of the fresh wolfsbane-infused healing fruits from the bowl. My hands worked automatically, peeling it, my blunt nails sliding through the soft rind. Each slice came apart cleanly. "Here." I held out the neatly sectioned piece toward Aria, trying to keep my tone light. "They’re straight from the pack gardens. Restocked this morning." She hesitated, her violet eyes briefly flicking over the fruit. Her hand reached out and took it with a gentle thank you, but the way her fingers trembled didn’t escape me.
