Storm sat upright in his bed, clutching his chest, eyes rolled white — not glowing softly like they did when the Goddess whispered — but blazing. My hand came around her neck so fast that even Breck hadn’t reacted. He tried to take my hand off her, but I glared at him. As if Breck knew he wouldn’t win against me, he staggered back. “Did you give Stormie any?” I asked Jasmine as I tightened my hold on her neck. “No!” Jasmine shook her head. “I promise! Stormie is pregnant. I just thought it would help give me an extra edge.”

The storm hit on Damoew's third week in the Outcast Lands. Wind tore through the camp like claws. Rain hammered the tents. Thunder shook the ground. Damoew woke to water pouring through his leaking tent. Again. He'd learned to sleep on the driest corner of his mat. Outside, wolves were shouting. Scrambling to secure supplies before they blew away. He emerged into chaos. Three tents had collapsed completely. Food storage was flooding. The central fire pit had turned into a muddy lake.

The landscape was a whirling, frozen vortex as the snow blasted through the blackness of the unrelenting storm outside. "Leave!" "Do it," Damien ordered. First to descend were Vanessa and Kyle, who vanished into the maelstrom below, their fall signaled only by the dim flash of their parachutes. Damien's voice was calm yet forceful as he took hold of my hand. "Remain near." Continue. Before I could answer, we jumped into the empty space. Deafening and merciless, the glacial wind ripped at us. Everything was engulfed by the storm, leaving the world just a haze of snow and gloom. Even though my heart was pounding in my ears, Damien's firm hold on my arm kept me grounded among the commotion.

"That’s odd. It’s unlike any mark I have seen in this pack." Storm shrugged, "well, Aaro is unlike any fucking woman I know." I had a snowflake and a crescent moon, probably because of the last name Snowden and because Storm belonged to the Winter Bone pack. But to me, it was pretty fucking obvious why Storm had the mark he did. It’s because I’m from the Iron River pack. I had snow to represent Storm and he had water to represent me.

Did you guys make it to Damont, all right?” Zuri asks. “And did you check the weather forecast before you left? Because I just heard that there’s a massive snowstorm over there. Never seen or heard something like that before. Snow at this time of the year is-”

“His body is not dead. But his soul is.” I thought back to the rogue’s. They’d said Adrian was hooked on drugs. Was it true? Is that what Storm was referring to? “He only cares about one thing,” Storm said. “Milkseed.” “I don’t know what that is?” I said, shaking my head. “It’s a drug,” Storm explained. “A very powerful one.” “But why?” I couldn’t imagine Adrian taking drugs. He barely drank wine! What in the name of the moon goddess would EVER possess him to take drugs?
