The person smiled, their eyes crinkling at the corners, and whispered, "Don't mind me. Just keep reading."
I was feeling increasingly awkward, so I decided to stand up, pretending to go and grab another book.
As I stood, he stood as well.
"Are you leaving?" He asked, his tone tinged with disappointment. I hesitated, unsure of what to say.
"I was just going to get another book," I said, feeling my face flush.
"Oh, okay," his voice clipped, looking slightly deflated. "Do you mind if I keep you company?"
I bit my lip, unsure of what to say. On the one hand, I didn't want to be rude. But on the other hand, I wasn't sure if I was ready to spend more time with this person.
