’ I was slightly shocked to hear Shadow’s voice, but as usual her voice of reason within me with her calm and soothing voice washed my worries away and provided a solution to my problem. ‘You’re right Shade, thank you for that.’ I said gratefully, feeling much more at ease. Her melodious giggle rang in my mind which brought a smile to my face. ‘Silly girl, we are two halves of the same being. Just because I choose not to speak to you all the time doesn’t mean I’m not there. I trust you Allison and I trust that each and every decision you make for us is what is best for us.’ She assured me and words could not describe how elated I felt.

“You killed him.” My heart stopped. Liam’s voice. But that was impossible. Marcus growled. “Don’t listen. It’s mimicking.” The shadow smiled if the way it curled in on itself could be called a smile. “You killed Cain,” it murmured. “Do you remember how he screamed?” My lungs tightened painfully. “No,” I whispered. “That’s not real. Liam is gone.” But the shadow’s voice twisted, warping into a deeper, distorted growl. Cain’s growl.

The shadow figure’s voice came again, closer, chilling, familiar. “You think this is the end? You have no idea who you’re really dealing with…”

I demanded, my tone sharper than I intended as I scanned the room instinctively. “I go by many names,” the voice replied, calm and composed. “But you may call me Shadow. For now.” Shadow. Cryptic as hell. “What do you want?” I asked cautiously, all but forgetting the food in front of me.
