That split second of hesitation was all Ignatius needed.
"Secure them!"
The voice came from the doorway. Ignatius stood there, flanked by twenty men with high-output sonic rifles. Behind him, Xavier walked in, his midnight-blue suit still pristine, a look of clinical boredom on his face.
"Drop the knife, Vane," Xavier said, his voice flat. "Or the frequency goes to max. Phineas’s heart won't survive the next minute if I press this button."
Lucian looked at Phineas, who was slumped on the floor, his silver eyes wide and fading. Lucian dropped the knife. It hit the floor with a hollow clatter.
