My eyes widened in horror but I forced my body to move, I stepped forward, cleared my throat quietly and then I spoke. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank you all on behalf of the entire Kassem family for being here to support us. I do hope you have a pleasant time here, enjoy the rest of the evening”. I said, it was a miracle my voices the tremble, it was a miracle I didn’t stutter.

It was still difficult to step up before all those alphas and speak. “I,” my voice cracked and I had to start again, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to say. I didn’t prepare a speech or anything.” I’d tried to plan what to say, but everything sounded like either pathetic excuses or insane conspiracies when I practiced.

Tiny cracks. Her voice regained rhythm but not authority. Her confidence had been replaced with self-monitoring. Every word weighed. Every breath controlled. Every movement measured. The words hung in the air, each one piercing my heart with a mix of fear and uncertainty. Unable to mask my tremor, I mustered the courage to speak, my voice quivering with a blend of disbelief and desperation. "I... I don't understand. What are you talking about?" The words escaped my lips, carrying with them the weight of my confusion and a plea for clarity.

Even though my lips quiver with anxiety, I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. The room feels like it's closing in on me, and my voice shakes as I force out the words, "Are you with Faith?"

I stammered, my voice shaking and trembled. Alexander, stopped, turned to me in surprise and asked, “Who are you talking to?”

Hearing his voice made my stomach twist into knots. He called again and I flinched but didn’t stop. If anything, I moved faster. “I don’t have time for this, Tesson,” I muttered, my voice shaky, barely above a breath-Pathetic, really. I meant for it to sound dismissive, but the slight tremor betrayed me.
