A Marriage of Convenience
I toss a few hundred-dollar bills through their open window, which shuts them up before running inside the high-rise apartment building.
Moving to the elevator, I click Shawn’s floor rapidly, knowing damn well my wife is up there.
“What do you want James?” his voice finally crackles through the speaker, and I want to punch something.
“My wife,” I spat through gritted teeth.
“She’s not interested right now,” Shawn’s voice lowers to a faint whisper, “Do yourself a favor and give her space.”
“I don’t do space.”
My voice is lethal, anger rising to the surface until I hear her voice, “James, I need….”
