I am grateful for the respite, as no one seems to be paying attention to me. I pull my cell phone out of my bag and open the Kindle app. It's still a while before class starts, so I want to read a chapter first. I duck my head and look at my phone as I devour the words on the screen. I started a book last night , and by all the saints, I think this book is going to tear me apart by the end. The main character goes through so much and then the supposed hero makes her suffer too. I must have cried about a million times, especially when I got to the part of the book about her past. I haven't even finished it yet and I feel like I already have a book hangover.

He grabbed my chin and turned my head so that I would look at him. “Show me the monster, then I can really have my fun with you. Johnny Boy had his turn last night, now I want mine” he hissed with venom and disdain dripping from his words. He is the worst. I hate when Spencer is here. Like a lot of the others, he gets satisfaction from my pain and torment. But unlike the others, he was the main cause of it. “Unless our boy here decides to grow a spine and remember why he’s on our side.” I stiffened. “Meaning?” “Meaning you’re too busy mooning over Dominic’s son to care about the mission.” His grin widened and became more cruel. “What, Xane? The hope grows with immense force. “Not even annoying?” Paying no heed to Spencer, I continue questioning her. “Maybe?” She lets out a giggle, “But trust me, it's the good kind of annoying.” She reassures me, stealing a glance back at Spencer who looks ready to bold out of this room. My eyes briefly meet Spencer's. His usual cold eyes seem to have emotions swimming around them, a tint of red coating his cheeks.

Guilt crept in me but instead, I shove it away and looked if he hurt Jaxon. "Siding with him, huh? What, you no longer care for your mate? Is that it, Aliyah?" That made me eye him again, and now he fully got my attention. I could not believe he was not seeing the reason why I was angry. He was pouring his anger and frustration on Jaxon, someone who did not even do something against him! "He doesn't deserve your anger, Reid. What the hell is happening to you?" He loved Garreth like a father, when Garreth had picked him up from the streets at sixteen and took him in even when his wife thought it was a bad idea. I quirk a brow, and Spencer’s face flushes red with disappointment as he chuckles slightly and rubs his neck. A girl stumbles out of the door, stopping when she notices the large man to her right. I watch intently when she looks up at him with tears in her eyes suddenly and she looks down, fixing her dress. He is practically vibrating with anger as he tries to avoid the pull of her eyes. There is no way in hell these two aren’t fated, mates. “Has he excused you?” Spencer asks her in a hushed whisper. I’m not sure why he bothers. We all are werewolves and our hearing is impeccable in the distance we are standing.
