The moment he spots me, something in his expression changes. His brows knit together, and he fixes me with a long, unnerving look that feels far more judgmental than any human being has a right to give another person. I completely freeze. I don’t blink. I can’t blink. My body has forgotten how to function, leaving me to just stare back at him, wide-eyed and paralyzed. Mark doesn't blink either. For reasons I can’t begin to explain, we end up standing here, silently staring at each other across the hallway like two complete idiots.

Reality fades. Minutes pass. My eyes open filled with cold emptiness. I feel nothing. I’m ready.

He looks clean and… and suddenly so strong again. It's makes me so happy to see him like this but it's still funny. I wonder if he knows how weak he looked throughout yesterday. Then he turns around and looks right at me. His mouth is shut tight but, he doesn’t look angry. He doesn't even look sad. His expression is just… blank as hell, and it's terrifying. He just looks at me, our eyes lost in each other. There's this sudden, deafening silence. I can feel my own heart getting weak, breaking into a thousand pieces at this moment.

He didn’t even refute Vans. He looked to be in a daze, as if not knowing what he had done. He stared blankly at the broken chopstick as melancholy filled his eyes. “What’s wrong?” Vans asked, worried.

Did someone tell him about it? I tried to search his eyes for a reply but he kept looking at me with a blank expression but soon an unfathomable gleam appeared in his eyes. As I scrutinized his face, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. The curve of his lips, the sparkle in his eyes, the furrowed brow – every feature seemed to conceal his true emotions. My mind whirled, analyzing every micro-expression, but Dylan's poker face revealed nothing. I longed for a crack in his facade, a hint of what he truly meant.

"WINTER!" I blink, my eyes strangely dry. I realize suddenly that I'm staring Blake dead in the face. My mouth's open and I'm drooling. I quickly wipe my mouth, embarrassed at being caught. I didn't mean to stare but I was so focused on my own predicament that I kind of zoned out. Well, he's definitely hard to not stare at but not the way I was staring. "Hah?" Dear Lord. I couldn't even say huh. It came out a nasally "hah". Now my mouth's open again in the most awkward way and I can't make it shut.

All I had to do was lift my head to see it. For some reason, I spent the entire afternoon just staring at it. My mind was blank, yet at the same time, it felt like if I just tried a little harder, I could remember something. It was a strange feeling, like a thin, hazy film was covering my thoughts, just barely keeping everything out of reach. If I could only tear through it, maybe I could remember everything. “Eve, what are you thinking about? Stop staring at that thing. It’s creepy.”

The room felt too small. Another beat of silence rendered like it was testing my sanity. Xavier stood there frozen. His expression was blank , almost like he forgot how to move. I adjusted myself in the seat staring at both men. My breath stuck in. I didn't know what this feeling was but it was disturbing. Because why did my hair rise and my stomach tremble? I cursed under my breath. Lucan leaned back on the couch. His face was indifferent like he couldn't care less about the scene that unfolded before him.
