Tabitha’s POV We take turns sketching across the stone wall, passing the marker back and forth. We layer over each other’s drawings like we’re trying to outdo the last. Reed snickers while drawing an alien with three eyes and a meteor shaped like a dick. And then, there’s also something he claims is a “space wolf,” which I honestly think is quite cute. It’s the only decent thing he drew. We keep laughing until my stomach hurts and I’m wiping tears from my eyes. I lean over the narrow window to catch my breath.

Celeste The house was quiet that evening — the kind of calm that came only after Amara had gone to bed and the world outside had grown still. I moved around the living room in soft slippers, collecting the last of Amara’s crayons from the coffee table, her tiny drawings scattered like forgotten treasures. “Can I hang this in her crib?” I smiled. “Of course, sweetheart. What is it?” She held it up proudly. It was a crayon drawing of the four of us—me, Alex, Lina, and baby Liana—with hearts and stars and a big sun beaming down from the corner. Damian wasn’t in it. Nathan wasn’t in it. It was just us. “I made it to scare away nightmares,” Lina whispered. I swallowed hard, blinking quickly. “She’s lucky to have you as a big sister.”

"Quickly tell me, what do you like? Forest? Sunset? Moon? A painting of Sterly? Say whatever you want me to draw, and I will. Sterly used to love paintings of oceans, skies, and animals. I can draw them all if you want..." Drake babbled on, and my temples pulsed.

I didn’t want her to get into trouble for my sake. One night, I sat on an armchair close to the window, staring into the deep blue sky and smiling at myself. The full moon alone brightened up the sky with twinkling stars saying hello. I lifted my hand to the sky, doodling to form a beautiful shape. I got a favorite star, I called it the crescent moon. I love watching the star. I could tell its position because it always shines the brightest. I was still doodling in the sky when Luna came along.
