NEAH I couldn't sleep. My brain wouldn't shut off. Guard rotations and tunnel dimensions and fifty-one hostages and a mole in our ranks spinning through my head like a machine with no off switch. I gave up at 1:47 AM. Pulled on a sweatshirt and padded downstairs for water. The packhouse was dark. Warriors sleeping in every available space. Bodies on floors and couches. The air heavy with the restless energy of people preparing for war. The kitchen light was off. I filled a glass by feel. Drank half of it standing at the sink. The cold water hit my empty stomach and reminded me I hadn't eaten since morning.

I sat down across from him instead. The silence stretched. He didn't look up from his book. I traced the rim of my glass with my thumb, counting the seconds, counting my breaths. "It's almost two AM," I said finally. "Why are you awake?" He turned a page. Then another. Then he closed the book and looked at me. His eyes were grey and exhausted, shadowed underneath like he hadn't slept in days. The gold flecks near his pupils caught the light, and I felt my wolf stir, lazy and interested, before I shoved her back down.

He would then let out a hiss as the excruciating pain jolted him awake and cold sweat beaded on his forehead. His inner thighs were already covered in the same scars I used to have years ago. There were new wounds piled on top of old ones, making for a gruesome sight. Dad thought that I would come back to him as long as he experienced the same pain I had suffered in the past and remained conscious the whole time. "Look, Zach, I never fell asleep. I've managed to stay awake all night," he mumbled under his breath to no one in particular in the empty room. He then grabbed the half-used bottle of hand sanitizer spray and spritzed the alcohol onto his festering wounds.

SERENA I didn’t sleep. I lay on my bed with the light off and my phone face down beside me, staring at the dark ceiling and listening to the apartment breathe. Pipes clicked. The air conditioner kicked on and off. Somewhere downstairs a door slammed, then another, then quiet again. Every sound felt louder than it should have, like my body had decided that rest was a luxury I wasn’t allowed anymore. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the book in Josh’s hands.

“Not tonight.” I left the leather volume on the worktable and practically fled to my bedroom. The sheets were cool when I crawled beneath them, still wearing my oversized sweater and lounge shorts. I pulled the covers up to my chin, closed my eyes, and willed myself to sleep. I’ll read more in the morning, I told myself. When the strange feeling is gone. When Stan’s angry words aren’t still ringing in my ears. Sleep came faster than expected, pulling me under like warm, scented oil.

he said simply. Rob didn't look up from his phone. I walked out of the dining room without looking back. Sleep, it turned out, had no interest in me. I lay in that beautiful bed in that beautiful room and stared at the ceiling while my mind refused to slow down. The nap I'd taken earlier had stolen all my tiredness and replaced it with a restless, buzzing wakefulness that wouldn't be reasoned with. I tried everything. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing, counting slowly like I'd read somewhere was supposed to help. I got to forty-seven before giving up.

It is 6 AM and I can't sleep anymore, even though I had so much fun which made me tired. I decided to go to the kitchen and make myself some coffee and read a book in the living room. I sit comfortably on the couch, sipping from my coffee and turning a page from the book that I am reading, called "Dominant Queen". I let myself sucked into the book, that I don't even notice when Dark sits beside me. He puts one hand on my leg and tells me good morning.

Vespa I couldn't sleep and found myself awake at nearly midnight. I tossed and twisted in bed, attempting to find a cozy position. Ria lay beside me, snoring softly, while I shut my eyes, hoping to drift off into dreamland, but my mind remained stubbornly awake. Sighing in frustration, I went to the kitchen to get a glass of milk to remedy the situation. On my way, my phone pinged with a text from Kai. /Are you awake?/

Rex's POV Falling asleep that night was harder than I expected. I guess the adrenaline of what tomorrow could bring just wouldn’t let my mind rest. But eventually, after tossing and turning, I found enough peace to drift off. That’s when the dream hit me. It was about the book. The symbol on its cover came to life, glowing and pulsing, whispering over and over—“It’s almost time.” Time for what? It wouldn’t say. That phrase kept echoing until I jolted awake, heart pounding, sweat clinging to my skin.

I didn't sleep nor take a nap after that, it will not help me either to force myself to sleep. I am just waiting for the two to wake up, and we will go home after. Our grandparents told us to stay in the room where Ashleigh slept after she fainted. Luckily, they have some books about the history of the pack here. I read and learned something from it though, it helps me to not get bored tonight. "You didn't sleep, right?" Ashleigh asked once she opened her eyes. I looked at her and nodded. I was sitting in front of the bed while holding a book. Vanessa was still in her deep sleep.
