I stayed next to her the entire time, not leaving her side as she stayed asleep, murmuring nonchalantly every once in a while due to her fever. I noticed her phone silently getting multiple calls from a person called Megan throughout the day. Lucas comes at one point to talk to me. We had a smuggling operation in a couple of hours and I was supposed to lead them. I shocked myself by telling Lucas to go without me. I realized I didn’t want to leave her side for one second before I make sure she is totally ok. By four p.m., whoever this Megan girl was, became insistent as she kept calling her phone nonstop.

But as a specific, unglamorous, genuine want, the kind you couldn’t manage or control or maintain the right distance from. She sat with it for two minutes. The cars went past in the dark. She turned the hazards off and pulled back onto the highway and drove home and went to bed and lay in the dark with the thought, which was terrifying and also, and she couldn’t suppress this, and didn’t want to: wonderful. The following Thursday she drove to Millhaven. She did not go to Marlene’s. He had texted: Come to the workshop. She came to the workshop.

However, none of them were brave enough to step forward and speak up for me, even though they now knew the truth. It was ridiculous and ironic. She hadn’t been prepared for any of this. “The name is Annalise… Gwendy,” she quickly fired back, remembering the awful nickname mentioned to her by Lance. “I am an advertising executive, and I’m currently working for ‘S&W Advertising’. I am living in Los Angeles and except for unforeseen events, I’m going to stay there,” she added with a smug grin on her lips.

I yawned, “but now I’m exhausted.” “I vote that we go back to bed,” Megan moaned. “What about the body upstairs?” I asked. “It’s been there for who knows how long,” Max offered. “It can stay there for a few more hours. You two go back to bed. I want to check the doors and windows one more time before I come up.” With Megan leading the way, my arms hung limp at my side as I forced my legs to take me up the stairs to my bed. It was amazing how tired and weak I felt, now that the adrenaline had dissipated.

Megan asked, while they walked towards the elevator. “I am not hungry,” Alex answered briefly. When the elevator stopped, the duo walked out and went their separate ways. Megan ate her food, and she decided to call her brother on a video call since there wasn't much to do. She chatted with Enzo and Loyd and decided to take a short nap after setting her alarm for four thirty. She woke up at exactly four thirty, and she got dressed, she was glad that she picked a very casual gown that suits the occasion, by the time she was done dressing it was thirty minutes past five when she left the room.

After finishing breakfast, Megan cleaned the table and went back to her room, which she was closed to all day. I watched her every morning and found her checking in my direction. Every time my heart flipped in my chest because I knew Megan was making sure that I was still there, that I was sleeping in my place and that I hadn’t left. I would never leave until she came with me, I would have waited years if I had to, but I knew it wouldn’t help.

Megan's POV I'd spent hours checking the clock, pacing from one end of the living room to the other while waiting for Kai to return from his meeting with Anton. I was desperate to know what they'd discovered and what they had discussed. After waiting for what felt like forever, I decided to take a short nap. Apparently, my body had been far more exhausted than I'd realized because what was meant to be a brief rest turned into much more. I sprang upright in bed with a gasp.

Seated right next to each other, the sisters had only hugged before helping Harrison get dinner ready. “You doing okay?” Sara asked in a low voice. “You look like you could fall asleep right here.” Megan laughed, but it was a sad sound. “I can’t stop thinking about everything I have to get done. I couldn’t sleep last night, and I ended up getting up at three AM to make a list of things to do.” She barely stifled a wide yawn. “You’re already making amazing progress. You’ll reopen next week, right?” Sara rubbed Megan’s arm. “You got this.”

The Following Day. A One-bedroom Apartment Off Campus. MEGAN’S POV. LILY'S FRIEND. Megan stirred awake with a soft groan, her body stretching lazily against the sheets as a yawn slipped past her lips. The early morning light filtered through the thin curtains beside her bed, brushing softly against her skin. Her eyes blinked open slowly, adjusting, before instinctively darting toward her phone resting on the nightstand. She rolled onto her side, reaching for it, her fingers brushing against the screen. It lit up instantly.
