I chuckle softly again, a low, rumbling sound that seems to vibrate through the phone.
“Worried?” I repeat, pulling on the second boot, tying the laces with practiced ease. I pick up my leather gloves and gently put them on per hand. My gaze drifts to the dark wood table beside my bed, where my preferred pistol rests. I pick it up, the cool, familiar weight a comfort in my hand. With deliberate movements, I click open the magazine, inspecting the neatly stacked bullets, arranging them, one by one, ensuring each is perfectly aligned.
