COLD STEEL, BLEEDING HEARTS
Aris, the scientist who’d made Maya’s family suffer for years.
“The Librarian dreamed too small,” Aris said, his words echoing off the crystal. “She wanted a shield. The Board wants a sword.”
He lifted a silver remote. All around, the blue statues began to crack. Pieces of that icy shell dropped off, and black, liquid metal oozed out from inside.
“They’re not people anymore, Maya,” Aris laughed. “They’re the new models. Optimized, improved. No hearts. Just objectives.”
The statues shattered. Soldiers stepped out—black steel bodies, gold eyes burning. They moved faster and hit harder than anything Maya had seen.
