Stephen King's Non-horror Books Novels & Stories

[Valerie] ** Three Months Ago ** I had all the tools I needed to execute the revenge I was hoping to wreak on the one who had robbed me of so much in my life. It plagued me for days on end - if it was the right thing to do. I sat at my desk in the library, paging through Stephen King’s “Doctor Sleep” but the words printed on the pages seemed to fuze and look like black lines and blotches across the pages. I had lost interest the moment I opened the first page, so how I was already on page fifty three was a mystery to me, because I couldn’t recall any of the words I had read.

By the time Momma passed I was married with a little one on the way, so my chance for college had passed, too. But I never stopped reading. Got me a nice little library out back, filled with all sorts of books crammed on bookshelves made by my own two hands. Books like Tom Sawyer, Edgar Allen Poe stories, Huck Finn and The King in Yellow, (that last one I don’t read much cause it always gives me strange dreams), some old mysteries, a clutch of Lovecraft’s books (they hurt my head, too, so I don’t read them much neither), my Hardy Boys books from growing up, and a whole bunch of newer ones by Stephen King and Dean Koontz. “I mean you as a homebody, not as my boss or anything like that.” It might be an exaggeration to say that Ingrid felt that day was very serene. She was a homebody herself when it came to it, always staying home when she didn’t have work, but it was a different feeling when she was with a man, and they were just relaxing. And his house... God, it felt like home already. “What kind of books do you read?” she asked interestedly. “Stephen King, Dan Brown, Clive Cussler, John Grisham, and the like.”

It was the way the Omega was smiling and blushing as he looked up at the scary Alpha. Sebastian found himself slowly wandering the room, looking at all the things that belonged to the Alpha: the paintings on the walls, the knickknacks on shelves, and the colorful hand-blown glass on the bookcase. His fingers ran along the books, and he noticed the entire collection was from the same author, Stephen King. They were all hardcover and looked to be in perfect condition. He wondered what kind of story those books told. Were they romantic or funny? It's been so long since he read a book. He slightly pulled back a book titled Needful Things before sighing and pushing it back into place.

But then, why were all her belongings still here? She stepped toward the shelves and ran an index finger horizontally across the spine of each book, noting the authors. Stephen King. Paul Tremblay. Lauren Beukes. All horror, violence, and morbid. Certainly not what Jade preferred to read. The magazines held a different texture, they were smooth but thinner, and her fingertip snagged every crevice. She plucked a random one out and examined the cover. Vogue. Flipping through the magazine, she noted several of the corners were folded as a bookmark. She glanced over the articles on those pages: Interviews with influential people, food and drink reviews, and beauty products.

"I'm in the mid-dle of a book called Christine right now. I circle different authors, and when I find ones I like, I go through the backlist, but not all at once, and I'm back on Stephen King for now. After that one, I'll read Carrie and The Shining, then find something else to read." "Really?" Evan said, glancing at me, a wide grin on his face. Before I could ask why he was so happy, he told me. "I love Stephen King books. There are some newer ones out, but some of my favorites are some of the older ones. How did you get into it? It's all horror stuff. Most people get squeamish." I shrugged. I got squeamish about bugs and snakes, but what's there to be scared of from a book?

I couldn’t let it spread. And the thing is, we weren’t offered these nasty little temptations, like you might find in a Stephen King or Ted Dekker novel. Folks didn’t bed their neighbor’s spouses, receive mysterious envelopes full of cash, earn straight A’s in exchange for their souls or get revenge on someone who’d hurt them.

So he inspired me to be creative with my writing. Stephen King- He is in my top 5 favorite authors of all time. I love reading his books. I love how dark, real, lighthearted, and horrific his stories can be. I love the world and characters he creates. He is main reason why I gotten into horror. His books "The Shining" and "Carrie", which were turned into classic movies, helped influenced me to create this story.
