Drake looked up slowly. Some students were hiding their giggles behind hands, others whispered shamelessly.
Steve chuckled under his breath and knelt down beside him.
“Damn, my bad,” he said, all mock innocence. “Didn’t see you coming.” His hand reached out, brushing dust off Drake’s trousers like they were friends. “Here, lemme help you.”
Drake flinched but didn’t pull away.
He could smell Steve’s cologne,too strong, and too fake. He could feel the crowd’s eyes, curious, amused, and cruel. But inside him, something stayed still. No anger. No drama. He wasn't ready for another embarrassing moment of apologies.
