He leaned down slightly, his lips brushing my ear, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “You have nothing to prove to her, Valerie. Not anymore. I know that you don't want to believe that, but I need you to right now. Just let her go, ignore her presence. She is not here.”
I forced a small smile. “A little hard to do so when she's standing looking the way that she is.”
The crowd shifted as an elder called for everyone’s attention. Xavier’s hand never left my back. To anyone watching, we were the picture of unity, the Alpha and his Luna, powerful and composed. But inside, my heart was beating hard enough that it hurt.
