I pressed a hand to my mouth to stop the laughter, but it didn’t help. Steven had an elephant head tattooed on his pubic area. From what I could make out from the distance between us, his penis was the elephant’s trunk. “Women don’t run when they see that?” I asked between fits of laughter. Amusement flashed through his eyes as he fixed his pants. “I keep them too occupied to notice.” With a wink, he left the room and disappeared down the hall. I dropped back onto the bed and allowed the laughter to take over once again. Damn, those brothers were seriously entertaining.

I called softly. He looked up and smiled. "What are you doing here?" That smile—same as always, like nothing could break him. No matter what, Steve always had a bright smile for me, like his world was all sunshine. I couldn't speak for a moment, and he laughed. "What? Do I look so bad you don't even wanna talk to me?" I shook my head. Jace said Steve had been in a bad place, but here he was, still smiling like nothing was wrong. But I knew better. He was putting on a show, hiding his pain for my sake.

Hearing Jeno's alarming voice, Hanin immediately lifts her face, she smiles thinly towards Jeno then nods. "I'm fine," Hanin replied. Steven, who saw Hanin's smile spontaneously smiled, instinctively wiped hanin's head and wiped hanin's tear traces using his hands. Jeno who saw it immediately clenched his fist, he felt annoyed, for no reason. "Don't cry Hanin, you make me sad," stefanie said as she smoothed Hanin's hair off her hairband. Hanin smiles broadly, assuring her friends that she is okay. "I'm fine, really!" She says reassuringly.

I had always told myself that no woman could manipulate me, yet here I was, wishing that the gods would grant my wish and allow me to be with her more often. "I think so with that smile creeping on your face, it's damn dangerous knowing you don't fucking smile!" Steven grasped, shaking his head in disbelief. His words were tinged with a mix of amusement and incredulity as he observed the unexpected grin on his usually stoic friend's face. The sight was so out of character that it momentarily stunned Steven, prompting him to question whether he was imagining things. Yet, there it was a smile breaking through the typically serious demeanor, adding an intriguing layer to their interaction.

"Steven, you zoomed out on me again." Steven was glad David had spoken. He got up from his chair and went to kneel before David, wiping the tears with his hand and calming David down. Steven gave him some water to drink and once he was relaxed, he looked up at David and mustered the best smile he ever could and David smirked. "Hey! Don't buy me with that smile, I still want to know what the matter is." "I wasn't buying you with a smile, although I was hoping it would change your mind."

He looks at me and gives me a sly grin. “I got it?!” I ask. He nods. I do a little happy dance in my chair then look back at Steven. He’s smiling but in a sort of thoughtful way, like his brain is still churning behind his skull. His smile slowly falls off his face and his pupils go dark. I wet my lips. They darken further. “You’re very smart,” Steven says, quietly. “It suits you.” “Thank you,” I say back just as quiet. Steven pushes a bit of my hair back behind my ear. “You’re welcome.”

The smell of coffee, expensive cologne, and alcohol stings my nose, and a rush of panic fills me until I spot Steven at a tall table. Making my way to him with a smile, I watch him give me a head-to-toe look over with a playful expression as he steps down from his seat and pulls me into a warm hug. “That color is beautiful on you,” he says. “Thanks,” I say, feeling my cheeks warm.
