Xavier Ethan emerged with an air of arrogance that ignited a burning rage within me. His mere utterance summoned a legion of wolves and fierce warriors, their presence sending shivers down my spine. As they surged forward, I motioned for my men to join the charge. Transforming, my body morphed into a creature of power, my claws and teeth bared for battle. “Maintain formation!” I mentally connected with my comrades as the clash commenced, the battlefield alive with the scent of blood and the thunderous clash of weapons.

Xavier was beyond stunned. He gasped for breath, having forgotten to breathe. He was curious to know the rest of the XVI's members. He was going to make them pay for taking his wife from him, leaving his daughter motherless. When he was done with them, they were going to be writhing in pain just like his wife, as they bled in a pool of their own blood. He growled, his bones snapping and contracting as he changed into his wolf form. Storm. His wolf was huge with red-eyes and black fur just like his fathers'.

Appeared behind her, following her frantically. I’m dead meat when they see me with Ryder. “We have to leave now,” Evyn said, tugging on my arm. What was she doing with them? I wanted to yell. “Maverick’s hurt,” Storm said, low enough for me to hear. “W-What?” I asked, standing. Storm turned his head, about to speak to me, but he took in my friend instead. “What the fuck are you doing talking to this guy? Don’t you know who he is? Odessa, what the fuck? Do you know where my friend is right now?” Storm yelled, his voice commanding the attention of everyone at the bar, sober and drunk.

And yet, he still needed to preserve his strength to face their wrath. To face such a catastrophe, his good fortune for this life must've run out. The three men were frozen stiff. There wasn't a trace of emotion to be found on their faces. But their vacant and dazed eyes spoke volumes of their state of mind. "What...did you say?" The first to return to his senses was Commander Long. Grinded by war and gore, the matter of disability and disfigurement, though devastating, didn't hit him as an earth-shattering matter.

But their respite was short-lived, as a sudden storm gathered above, dark clouds swirling ominously. "Now we face the air!" Xavier shouted, feeling the wind whip around them. "We need to unite our powers to calm the storm." Xienma nodded, her heart racing. "Let’s do it!" Together, they reached for the sky, channeling their energies into the storm. It roared in protest, but with their combined will, they began to calm the winds, dispersing the dark clouds and allowing sunlight to break through. With each trial they faced, the bond between Xienma, Xavier, and Cassie deepened. They were not just fighting for themselves but for each other, their trust in one another growing stronger.

Chapter 48: A Dance with Chaos Evie's voice, though shaky, echoed with a newfound defiance. "We fight," she declared, raising her staff. Liam and Xal'dar stood beside her, their faces grim but determined. The Devourer loomed closer, its gargantuan form dwarfing them. Its red eyes burned with a hunger that seemed to consume the very air around them. Panic warred with a desperate hope within Evie. The faint flicker of chaotic energy she felt within her was a gamble, a sliver of a chance against an overwhelming force. But it was all they had.

Storm opened his jaw wide, ready to give the final bite to end the other wolf’s life. “Enough,” I shouted at Storm. For a moment, Storm and I stayed locked in a power struggle. I tried to push him back, but Storm didn’t want to go—he wanted to taste death. I had no choice but to surge forth, overtaking Storm. I pushed him back, and obediently but reluctantly, Storm obeyed. Gamma Stone and I both shifted back into our human forms. Warriors rushed to me to cover me up, but no one went to Gamma Stone. He looked around, naked, bleeding, and ashamed. He eventually tore a cloak right off one of the warriors.
