The stranger in the robe mumbled a bunch of strange spells, and I felt like bugs were biting me all over. It hurt so much that I could not help but yell. "Shane, Wren! What are you doing to me?" Shane watched me in pain and laughed like a madman. "Hahaha, we're using a spell from Southwind Asira to transfer all my sickness and bad reactions to you! How else am I supposed to have fun with the ladies later?"

He signaled the Howlers and the rogues, and they vanished into the brush with the speed of shadows. "What about us?" Raven asked, her teeth chattering. "We stay," I said. "We cover the tracks." I pulled a handful of grey dust from my pocket—spirit ash. I threw it into the air, whispering a command of obfuscation. The air began to shimmer. The cruiser pulled up to the shore, its tires crunching on the frost-covered gravel. Sheriff Miller stepped out, his flashlight beam cutting through the dark. He was a man who had lived in Blackridge his whole life, a man who tried very hard not to see the monsters in his backyard.

He moved closer, though I wasn't afraid. 'What does he want now?' I muttered inwardly, knowing fully well that my job was not to help a stranger. If Clara ever finds out, then I would be doomed. He stood in front of me, his blue eyes fixed on mine. He leaned slowly and I knew he wanted to kiss me, but I didn't move.

Three years ago… They dwelled together in Southern California. They resided in a beach house just a coupla miles walk from the ocean. Shane gawked at the seashore. The gusty wind whistled in his ears. The ocean swirled, the waves clasped together, and touched his feet before it retreated. Across his head, a host of sparrows flew in unison which caused him to stare upwards as he noticed for the first time the beautiful sunset. Somewhere nearby he heard the crackling sound of burning woods. It was six p:m and twelve hours until his final moment.

Anthony slumped down onto the cold steps, his whole body shaking like a leaf. Karina was pinned hard to the marble floor by two bodyguards, her gown scuffed to rags, her face a smear of tears and foundation, her shrill wailing setting the whole gallery ringing. Leon was just about to speak and hand down the punishment when a dark mass of black-clad figures suddenly surged up from below. The tread of leather shoes on the steps was heavy and even, as all twelve elders of the Perrone family made their entrance.

The stranger knew that it would not take long before these dark shapes transform into menacing figures intent on seizing the most coveted object in the whole of Sendorra. The stranger descended the sand dune and did not take long before reaching its base. With feet planted firmly on the sand, the stranger slowly raised a hand and opened it to reveal a round featureless stone. The stranger dropped the stone a short distance where it was partly covered with sand and then took out a small waterskin. With arm outstretched, the stranger slowly poured water over the dark stone.

It wasn't Jennifer's voice—it was a stranger's voice! Frederick's hair stood on end immediately. "Who are you? What have you done to her?" The sudden fury in his expression even startled Sheldon, who instinctively took several steps back. "Hehe! Nothing yet. But soon, you'll find out." Shane's sneer came from the other end of the line. "Come to the Sentinel Shrine outside the city in fifteen minutes. If you're a minute late, I'll take off one piece of clothing from her body. I'll continue until she's naked, and—"
