That earned a short laugh from me. I pushed myself off the bed and turned toward the bathroom, not because she told me to, but because I wanted to. I shut the door behind me and turned on the shower, letting the hot water pound against my shoulders.
As the steam filled the space, my thoughts drifted back to her. She was stubborn. I had noticed that from the beginning. Stubborn in the quietest way possible. Not loud. Not dramatic. Just firm, unyielding, and determined to stand her ground even when she knew she was outmatched. She did not beg. She did not argue endlessly. She simply decided and held her position.
