The video shows what I didn’t fully see then Me. I drop my stick. My gloves. Gone like they’re burning through my hands. And then I move. Fast. Too fast. I don’t even recognize it as myself. I hit Capaldi like a storm. He lifts off the ice for a split second before crashing into the boards. The impact alone should’ve been enough. It wasn’t. I keep going. Punch after punch sharp, brutal, relentless until bodies swarm in to drag me back. But the video doesn’t stop there.

Every month, I could come in, fight entities, blow off steam, and keep living a normal life. So even though I did well in the game, I never wanted my boyfriend to know this place existed. Once the game latched onto you, you could never leave unless you cleared it.

“Don’t do this to me, Betty. Don’t do this." I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself. This is a bad situation. But I can handle it. I just need to stay calm. I take another deep breath, feeling the tension in my shoulders ease slightly. I turn the key again. But this time, the engine remains silent. I slump back into the seat, my head resting on the steering wheel. The dam of my composure finally breaks and the tears I’ve been holding back spill over.

She felt the plug of air stucked in her throat, clutching her breathe in a frightful embrace. No matter how blatantly clear the truth laid, she refused to believe it. It wasn't possible. She had been more faithful to her pills than she had been to anyone else. Scientifically there was superficially no way her pills hadn't worked. It was all but a cruel game of fate that seemed to always catch up with her.

His mouse pointer seemed to quiver on the link, a tiny, shaking arrow over a reality he did not want to accept. He swallowed and the noise was rough and scratchy in his still apartment. Then he clicked. The site was an ad mess that slowed down his computer. Centered on it was a video player inserted. It loaded in one second and then the video played.

“FUCK!” All I could do was run. Felt kind of like Indiana Jones running from that giant boulder. But of course, there’s no quick way for me to dodge it. As I’m working up a sweat trying to stay just far enough ahead of this damn hedgehog set on making me a pancake, I hear a narrator voice in a video game shout, “Player Two has joined the game!”
